Ford is clearly numero uno in diesel sales, generic motors, when you combine cheby and gmc, are a close number 2 and Ram is last. By a goodly margin

Make of it what you will but, IMHO, it's the new transmission that is the deciding factor. or not

You mean like a '75 Vega? Or a vehicle bought by a Company intending to use it in South America? Or a South American Company that bought it up here and shipped it home? Or an African Company that bought them and shipped them to Antarctica or -- Wherever?

As to the poster saying that Ford leads heavily in Fleet Sales (for now), why would that be news? generic motors and Chrysler went tits-up in 2008 and there weren't a whole lot of other people making trucks for the commercial market.

I'm hardly a Ford fan boy, I'm not a fan of any of them. But I respect Ford. I respect FCA, too. A lot. An awful lot.

News? Hardly. Just look around you. The only large fleet I see that’s not Ford dominant is Verizon. They like their Rams around here anyway.
Why is Ford the leader? It’s probably the volume price they can provide in a bulk sale and I will admit, when it comes to cab or chassis configuration possibilities, Ford wins. Decades ago, when sedans mattered, Taurus outsold Camry due to rental and fleet sales.

Woa....that's kinda all over the place. It wasn't meant as anything other than an observation. If they are including vehicles that don't even exist the overall accuracy of the rest of the report is suspect to me. That's all.

And no, nobody is going to buy a TDI with US emissions that do not exist and ship it to a country that doesn't even have emissions requirements let alone know what a DPF is That's just silly talk

What vehicles are you talking about?

Could it be that somewhere in the back of a dealership somebody spotted a leftover 2012 VW diesel and finally decided to sell it? Doesn't matter when it was made, it matters, for that list, when it was sold.

I went by the Port in Charleston one time years ago (maybe 15-20?) and saw a bunch of cars sitting on the dock. All rice-burners. Thousands, I stopped in a rest area a few miles later and chatted up somebody that was there. I remarked about 'No wonder we can't keep Americans working, I just saw all those cars coming in from Japan'. He politely informed me that they were going back to Japan because they couldn't sell them. He knew because he worked there. I had no idea at the time how big that port is.

Strange things happen in the car market. Now, if I saw 20,000 Oldsmobile diesels on the list, I'd think of it as suspect too.

But all I saw is a handful of uncommon makes and models here and there.

I see nothing to disqualify the accuracy of the list.

Really glad my 2015 3500 did not have them. I believe they are required on vehicle over 7' wide. Mirror do not count. It was an option on earlier SRW trucks, most likely still the same.

Clearance lights on 2020 3500 SRW build are part of the Snow Chief Group.

Clearance lights were standard on a 2004 3500 SRW. Not sure when they stopped it.

Standard on my 05, but not my 18 or dads 17.Adding them wasn’t hard, but would have rather them come stock.

I’m guessing 4th gen is when they went optional as my buddies 2010 3500 doesn’t have them.

Every Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche on that list is bogus. The last model year any of them offered a diesel engine was 2015, Volkswagen Auto Group manufactured them all and they were all banned following diesel gate. Once the fix was approved by the EPA there was HEAVY incentives to move any new vehicles previously not sold, and they sold very quickly. I had a pretty good thumb on the pulse through the whole ordeal.

I was mainly giving Rammer Jammer a hard time, although I still wouldn't want the lights on my truck.

‘Round here we call it “a walk around the barn” derailments are enjoyed and appreciated here at the TDR.

I feel more secure running door to door with tractor trailers in the dark with the cab lights. They know I’m there.

People are a lot less likely to pull out in front of a truck with clearance lights at night than a truck without them. For some reason, you get more 'respect' when they're on at night or in the later evening.

Plus (and this is the most important reason to get them) they're really cool looking

They aren’t hard to add. Finding the right wire to connect to was the hardest part... aside from drilling the first hole
