Check engine light and Electronic Throttle Control icon on dash 2008

BIL has a deleted 2008 that is intermittently getting a check engine and Electronic Throttle Control icon on dash. No codes are being set. Drives fine even with errors lite up on dash. I put my volt meter on the batteries and watched the grid heater cycle with voltage going down to low 12's and back up to 14.4V. He say volt meter is normal pegged at the top. I isolated the batteries after shutting it off and both read 12.8V. Batteries appear to be 5 years old. Searches seem to point to batteries. I suggested he have the batteries checked individually and clean all the ground.

Any thoughts?

Any more info on this? My 07.5 3500 intermittently showing this icon and sometimes completely quits going down road. Mash the pedal, it goes back to normal, afraid it'll leave us stranded. No codes. 73,000 mi. Maybe new pedal assembly?

It should give you a code, retrieve it with a decent reader.
No need to show a check engine light.
Probably pedal assembly aka. APPS.

Have the batteries tested, my 08 had the same indications and had one battery bad.
