My steel hood does the same at certain car washes. I told one place and they seem to have turned the velocity down because it didn’t do it last time, but I still try it I avoid that one unless it really needs the road grime off and it’s my only option.

ya.. I wont be going back to that one.. IMHO way too much air pointed right at the center.. Probably not to good for the roof either :)

Side note....., I went through a car wash last week (rode in truck) and the big @$$ fan that dries the truck at the end was causing the hood to deflect inward significantly over the center area.... Is it OK? it was fluttering in the center like a towel waiving on a clothes line on a windy day! I sure don't want dents, creases, or worst paint failure? What are these hoods made of?

Since you brought up the hood flex, I was towing our RV after Christmas and was passed by a 19+ and noticed the hood side flexing in the wind. Are you experiencing this too?

Cheers, Ron

The biggest reason I use them is the undercarriage wash. If I could just get that part I would. It’s nice to get grime and such washed out of all the nooks and crannies.

Have you asked about undercarriage only ?. The clear coat is thinner than a post it note and loses 50% of it's ultraviolet resistance in the first 5 years. No reason to help it along.

Not yet that I've seen, but the part that I was most concerned about it in the low pressure area between the leading edge of the hood and the windscreen.. I haven't been in any serious wind yet... I was in some snow last weekend and the hood height / angle does a good job of pushing over the windscreen, no snow was actually hitting the window at 65mph. When I was down in TX a few years back.. I hit headwinds so bad, my "tuned" 04 could not do more than about 65 pulling my 5er.. I had to slow dn due to EGT to high, wonder what I'll see when I head to MT in a few months.

Agreed... I am tired of getting the hose out after passing down a hwy that was just brined for a "chance of snow" or picking up the salt in a light rain 3 days later. Maybe I need to make my own with a galvanized pipe and some nozzles that I can use hooked up to my pressure washer? and sell it one EBAY?:D:D:D
Here in NC they throw down salt evetime the wind blows it seems... Best part tho is seeing how bad drivers are and how they cant handle a dusting of snow, its like Armageddon. Never had issues like that out west where I grew up!

"I’ve been known to park over a sprinkler thou"

I've a pal who does that, except he has a PVC rack with 4 heads and connects it to his hot H20 heater.

A very good innovation, IMO!

I wonder, though, if it's a good idea to use such a device when it's gonna be freezing out. I think one of the greatest causes of damage to vehicles up north is the constant freezing and thawing of ice.

Water gets -- Everywhere. I mean...... Everywhere. You park it, the water freezes and expands, separates joints, seams, tiny cracks in welds..... You name it.

Thaws out and leaves an even bigger gap than before, gets more water in it, freezes again, rinse lather, repeat.

So, while I think it's a brilliant invention and I would definitely use it if I lived up there, I think I'd only use it if there was no chance of a hard freeze for a couple days. YMMV

Agreed. But his "assembly" only weighs a few pounds, so after he unhooks at the water heater it can be flipped over and drains on its own. Think he can slide it easily under anything in his garage except the Corvette.

I was stationed at Keflavic Iceland for a year and opted to wash truck about once a week, and it was way below freezing most of the time. My objective was to keep salt and ice free from the undercarriage. Truck was outside the whole time. Also touched up paint chips as well. Cheated yesterday on the 5500 and went through car wash, nice high pressure spray for undercarriage and about a 90 grade for overall wash.

It worked. Always have and always will wash undercarriage and body from my perspective and experience.

Cheers, Ron

We have a fantastic car wash right around the corner from me. Went there yesterday and couldn't even get near it. Every New Yawker, New Joiseyite, Masshole, Michigander and Wisconsite on the Planet was there like they were giving away government cheese or something. It's one of the most annoying parts of living in S Florida. In fact, we're thinking of moving because of it. No shirt. It's beautiful down here but you can't enjoy it anymore. Wall to Wall buttheads 24/7 for 6 Months.

Then to make it worse, a lot of them end up staying. After they completely and totally screwed where they live, they come down here. Wonderful.

I was almost inspired yesterday to start a General Rant Thread... after truck washed, got on Interstate to head to the house when this goober driving a semi dump truck pulls on the highway empty except trailer had bunch of rainwater leaving a slurry spray of liquid road base on the road an cars... I saw it immediately checked all clear, changed lanes and slowed down. He sprayed countless cars as he zoomed 75+mph down the road. Fortunately, I had a little on the grill guard and front, but avoided getting the whole truck coated.

I could pretty much fill a rant thread just on local dump trucks and butthead drivers.

Cheers, Ron
