Rust on underside of seat

I’ve got ‘17 2500. Looking for a dropped item, I noticed that the metal rods on seat bracket had surface rust. Anyone else notice this? Any ideas on how to mitigate?

Normal on all Rams, under the dash it looks the same.
Leave it alone, it doesn't harm, it's just optical.

I own a 1978 Dodge Ram Little Red Express truck, and it has same surface oxidation, still no problems.

@17Ram, If you're that worried about it, coat it with a rust convertor. I've been using Black Star Rust Convertor on my equipment. Coated the frame of the 3500 last fall and looks like a new frame even after it's first winter. It's thin enough to be applied with a spray bottle if needed. Thin like milk with very low odor and environmentally friendly! I choose due to not needing a topcoat like other products and $. $89 a gal with free shipping and twice the coverage! Have no ties with the product other than using for my gear. Does what I need and long term, we'll see. My '01 1500 has about the same amount it had shortly after purchase, just doesn't look good. Enjoy your truck!

It drove me crazy on my 2009 truck. It speaks of penny pinching lack of quality to me. It started to stain the carpet in the truck. I took the seats out and painted the frames. I HATE RUST!

When we got the 2015, I rattle canned the diffs, steering stuff and other stuff under the truck that was not painted in the factory.

I used to buy a case of rattle can Rustoleum gloss black and do the whole undercarriage cept'n the aluminum xfer case. Might just wash the undercarriage of the Jeep, 2017 Ram 5500, 2019 Ram 1500, and 2020 Nexus MH. Always looks good and dirt doesn't adhere to shiney paint so well.

I agree. Seems like a non starter. Rust seat hardware, not exposed directly to elements. I was shocked.

This is a shot of what the Black Star looks like on the frame of the 3500. I was able to apply by brush and a garden sprayer! Got another gallon to do any touch up after the winter weather and to spray into the frame. I want to avoid any issues and extend the life of my truck! Also brushed my spare tire rim. I think as the weather turns, I'll be doing all the rims! Enjoy these TRUCKS!!!

Where you live also has a large impact on the amount of surface rust.

My 05 didn’t have much surface rust on the interior since I live in a fairly dry area, but dads 06 had a lot since it was near Seattle for most of its life. The truck were only about 6 months apart on build dates.
