I am in the process of rebuilding my heater box in my 2001 ram 3500. I have purchased a new blend door actuator, but it has four prongs and my old one only has three prongs. I did not find one with only three prongs. Anybody know if this new one will still work correctly. Just did not want to put the box back in the truck until I knew if the new one would work as is.

This what your looking for ?. It has 3. Just my opinion but I would say no the 4 will not work. The actuator needs to go through the learning process. May be in the FSM and if not I did a procedure on it somewhere on this site.

The original part number was 5012924AA which has been superseded to 5104879AA which does have four pins. The only vehicles I can see that this actuator fits are 1999-2002 1500, 2500, and 3500 Dodge Ram Trucks The wiring diagrams for the 1999-2002 2500 and 3500 trucks show three wires, but the connector is a six cavity connector. If it doesn’t work, I’d contact a dealer and see if there was a TSB on it.

I can’t find a diagram showing four wires. That’s what I was saying, everything I can find shows that actuator only fits ‘99-‘01 1500’s and ‘99-‘02 2500 and 3500’s and all those trucks only have three wires.

You’d need to contact a dealer and ask for a list of all vehicles the 5104879AA Actuator fits. If they come up with something besides the trucks I listed above, I’ll get you a diagram for it.

Last year I had the dealer preemptively replace everything in the air box including the temperature actuator being discussed here, all of the blend doors, and their actuators. Bits of the foam seals on the doors were blowing into the cabin and the temperature control was not working well. It took them about a month to round up the parts (part of my motivation was that these are getting scarce), and another month to figure out how to adapt the 4-pin actuator to work with the 3-pin cable. They went way up the chain with Dodge and found someone who knew. Sorry I don't know the details, but there is a solution that works.

I've talked to several people at dodge, but I guess I haven't talk to the right one. You would think there would be tsb on this issue.

I am dealing with the same issue. Have a 3 pin plug and can only find 4 pin motors. If anyone has any insight to this, would be greatly appreciated.

I have bought another AC/Heater control unit as no power coming out of the yellow wire so hoping that is the issue why the blend door motor won;t work
