So I ordered a new 2020 3500 SRW ho aisin regular cab long box flame red Dodge. Should be here before hard winter starts about the middle of October here in Alaska so I can have my camper builder fit it to the new truck etc and all can be done before winter .The main reason I bought new is so the dealer can service it and for the warranty . Then there’s the extended warranty . At 71 as much as my brain wants to work on my truck my body just can’t do it anymore. I hate to admit it but true. So my wife just retired and we would like to travel a bit. Some places a bit remote so having a reliable truck etc is rather important to us. Haul road -Yukon -Northwest Territories -Alaska Hwy -maybe western US -so being reliable and fixable is the key to this Bombing is done. So what do I need to know about warranties and extended warranties to make this all happen?

Cancel and order a 2021... You don't want a 19' or 20' due to the fact that they have the crappy CP4.2 high pressure fuel pump that can fail. RAM went from the tried and true CP3 pump to the CP4.2 for 2019 and 2020 but now the 2021 trucks are back with the CP3. RAM is/was experiencing failures and reverted back to old faithful. You don't want to be way out in the middle of nowhere in a dead rig.

Also.... Is your camper a full bed replacement type or does it sit in the bed. I've heard about warranty issues / stuff getting voided if you remove the bed on a non CC truck.

As for warranty.... Genuine FCA MaxCare via the online place mentioned here on TDR.

FCA MaxCare gets my vote also! There was still some time left on one when i acquired my truck. Fixed a rear main seal leak, pan Gasket and rear adapter plate seal! was the best $50 transfer fee I spent. Deductible was $200 but far cheaper and easier on the body! Enjoy that truck and travels in that beautiful country you intend to go into! Bit jealous being on the east coast!

Long drive from the east coast. But you can always come. Canadian borders closed until sometime in 2020 I’m told.Alaska residents are allowed thru to come home as it were but straight thru no touring around I’m told

That's one drive I'd love to talk the DW into taking, but I'd have better luck moving the mountains! My son was out in Everett Washington and relocated to Jacksonville Florida. He job payed for the move and he drove instead of shipping his car. He said glad he drove back since car was shipped out from east coast. He made it into a sightseeing trip and enjoyed it! That's a big reason I'd like to make the journey out and have always wanted to visit Alaska and NWT's.

Dealers are short on loaners now. FCA's warranty does not cover rentals. I got the MOPAR warranty and had to extract teeth for the finance guy to quit trying to sell me the Fidelity Garbage. Come to find out the MOPAR warranty has been covering the few rentals I have needed. I am dumbfounded it took a rental and overnight to change one bad battery under warranty.

Sample real MOPAR contract and what it covers here: (I suggest the longest term and lowest deductible.) Note what it doesn't cover.

I have had 4 new vehicles in my life never used the warranty. But vehicles were much simpler then also. I bought a bare bones new Ford F-250 v8 4 speed in 1983 off the lot $12 k and it came with a on

Most people pay more for the extended warranty than what they get out. Otherwise, it wouldn't be profitable for the warranty companies to even exist. What it does give you in return is that any covered item will only ever cost so much to fix. So it helps with budgeting for unexpected repairs and provides a certain amount of peace of mind. Being away from home and not able to fix things yourself may well make the extended warranty very valuable to you. And, hopefully once again you will never need it.

MaxCare on my 06 paid for itself twice over. All kinds of stuff... TIPM, Front and rear wheel bearings/seals, Rear main crank seal, steering box, power steering pump, REC Nav head unit (twice), Rear window glass slider motor, Sunroof motor, Front upper/lower ball joints, Drivers power seat motor. Just the stereo head unit would have been $1600 x 2. I paid $2150 for my 8/100 MaxCare on the 06' in 2008 when it had 18k on the odo.

Now with my 2019 3500... I have MaxCare 8/125 with a $200 deductible, Paid $2850 for it in Nov of 2019 when I took delivery of the truck. I went to Chysler warranty direct and showed the salesman the price online, They matched it... Done deal. Later I learned that I showed him the quote price for a 2019 2500..... not a 3500, Well, That saved me some $$ cause the 2019 3500 MaxCare 8/125 was priced at $3250 at the time.

They have the lowest price genuine FCA/Mopar/Dodge/RAM warranties. If your dealer will match price then.. Keep it local. But if not... I'd say get one just cause you'll be using your rig a bit and who knows... Maybe you'll hit 36k miles before 3 years is up and it will be out of warranty. I just got a new work van, a 2020 MB Sprinter 2500 Diesel 4x4... I was offered to extend the factory 3/36 to 5/100 for $800 from the dealer, I jumped on it.

My Maxcare policy paid for itself several times over. Peace of mind. These days everything is $1000 to fix-radio, GPS unit, front wheel bearing, rear bearing seals, turbo actuator, and others, but the kicker for us was the broken valve and blown engine. they covered all of it. Outstanding customer service. Same for Lithia RAM dealer Eugene Oregon. from service writer to mechanic, to Service Manager and Parts Manager it was by far the best warranty experience I have ever had. Thats where I will be buying my next truck.

Let me get this straight..so if you buy a Maxcare 8/125 the Maxcare doesn’t start till after the 3/36 runs out. So your actually getting a 5/89 but paying for 8/125…?

My understanding is the MaxCare picks up where the factory warranty does not.. So they will debit the factory warranty and if it does not cover, then MaxCare takes over, for example key fobs, rental cars, etc.

Even in the 3/36 period, MaxCare provides some benefits such as first day rental car over the factory warranty. Think of it like medicare supplement insurance where the factory warranty is the primary payer and the supplement pickup after the primary pays.

You can also wait to buy the MaxCare as long as you get it before the 3/36 runs out. After that there is a big step up in cost.
