Dirty exhaust pipe

Hey all just wondering, when I bought my 2016 2500 new the tip of the exhaust pipe was clean as a whistle. Now with 75,000 miles it has some black Discoloration two it. Is that an indication that the particulate trap is bad? Thanks for your input

I don't believe that you have any issues. My 2014 has 155k on it and has discoloration also. Many factors involved with discoloration. Type of miles, fuel, idling and load carrying. Others with more knowledge will chime in also. Just wanted to state that I've got the same.

No, if there were any issues with the DPF there would be a code posted and the check engine light would be on.
Have you changed the CCV filter at 67.5K miles as it should have been?
I could see you getting crud in the exhaust from oil blow by due to a saturated CCV filter, or some other source of oil entering the exhaust.

The tailpipe should be perfectly clean inside. Wipe your finger on the inside and see if it comes out black. If it is more than likely you have a crack in the DPF. If you pull the outlet pipe off and look at the face of the DPF it should be white. If you see any black dots on the face it has a crack.

Agree. I've seen DPF's crack without CEL's. Soot in the tailpipe is the easiest indicator.
