driving the wife aroubd town the other day

I always drive with fuel ave on the dash , While driving around town the other day I noticed 13,1 normal around town is around 17. So I scanned the dash and the regen was in progress . Did not know it took that much fuel to re gen . Laster around 15 miles . Just some info for members . No waring it started or not to shut it down so I went home shut it down , started it the next day and the re gen finished . Just some info .

I monitor my regens with a CTS2 and the only time I’ve noticed a “noticeable” decrease in fuel economy was on a wet day where there was a lot of standing water and spray to get on the DPF and cause some decent evaporative cooling, and thus more fuel to keep it hot.

Totally normal.
See, I avoid all of that kind of stressing out about what my truck is doing because I have no gizmo to watch what my truck is doing. I just drive down the road and let it do its own thing, and if there is a issue the truck will let me know.

There may be a reason to keep an eye on what the truck is doing. My 2019 with 50k Miles is at the dealer now. It will do a regen every 2-3 engine hours. No engine light.
Its literally always towing something and plenty of hwy miles to let it get hot.
Hopefully they find something.

I got a p0299 low boost once that turned it self off. Nothing for the frequent regens. That’s why I’m hoping that the dealer finds something.

It is interesting watching the boiling water:) . I have a scangauge and have been watching temps . It gets up over 1k degrees . I go about 20 hours before regen. I get why the open road is best for these trucks.

You’re probably going about 24 hours between regens, as that’s the max allowed by programming. As soon as a regen ends it starts a clock.

Since I started taking note of my regens they have only been at the 24 hour interval, which means my driving style is easy on the DPF as I don’t have short cycles regens.

Yes they get HOT. When I did a stationary desoot before my last oil change the exhaust was not enough to singe let hair at 3’ from the tailpipe.

The automatic regen hits easy 900+ pre turbo at a stop light. (I have a preturbo probe on my CTS.)

Interesting. I’ve never see my EGT1 sensor get that high just from regen. EGT1 will show 500-600° and EGT 2-3 will be over 975°.

EGT1 is post turbo. I have a CTS probe in the manifold.

Right, but still surprised you see it that high at idle. The temp drop across the turbine with no boost and low rpms is minimal, if any. In fact those conditions would often show a higher post temp than pre temp on my 05 under any towing or higher load periods until the turbine cooled off.

Regen shouldn’t be increasing pre-turbo temps much. Regen heat is made in the DOC.

The other part of the equation was the VGT closed down also. EBP went up by about 5 psi. Almost like it was doing a warm up with EB on.

My ignorance showing here but please tell me how to see my trucks 16/17 2500 regen cycles. I appreciate your reply.
