After 25 years, it's time for new brake calipers on my 1996 4x4 2500. The heat has done them in, as well as the rubber lines. But the problem that I'm up against is this:
1. Rebuild them myself, and risk finding excessive pitting in the cylinders.
2. Buy a new set, which will be made in China. That's unless I can find a better source.
3. Buy a rebuilt set, but also face the excessive pitting problem. People are reporting problems where the pistons get cocked in the bores, probably because the bores were polished out to eliminate the pitting.
4. Find the place that rebuilds and brake calipers and calipers and relines the cylinders with stainless steel or bronze.

I'm thinking that Option 4 is likely the best. Has anybody tried that? And do you know the names of places that do the work? Many thanks.
 
I replaced all of the brake component on both of our trucks (2002 & 2001.5) and went with the Centric Posi Quiet Loaded Calipers. I got the first set at Rock Auto but they went out of stock and still don't carry them so I got the rest of the calipers from Summit Racing Performance. Mine were cadmium coat which looked something along the lines of a gold color type plating. I haven't had any issues with them. One thing I really like about them was that they were actually OEM calipers that were sent to China rebuilt & plated. I upgraded to the Centric Stop Tech Sport Slotted rotors. Unfortunately damn near everything comes from China.
 
I run remans from Rockauto for the last eight years and they do fine.
Forgot the brand over the years, could be centric or raybestos.
 
Only issue I’ve ever had with over the counter brake calipers was on 2014 dorf tardus got a reman from carquest and it leaked as soon as i tired to bleed it . Other than that no issues and I’ve done many many calipers over the years on my own vehicles and I keep them until they will not move under there own power anymore
 
Y'all are setting my mind at rest with my decision. I had visions of leaky or "cocky" calipers from rebuilds that had been honed out too big. Still and all, I am trying to recall the name of the place, probably on the east coast, that rebuilds cylinders & calipers and presses in brass or stainless liners. That has gone into long-term inaccessible memory.

Now the hoses, they are really due to be replaced.

I saw them listed on Amazon and eBay. I get them from a local parts wholesaler. I would think any parts store should be able to get them.

Well, I just checked just now and I can't find them anywhere now, either. Even my wholesale supplier doesn't have them and is steering me to some Nugeon Techshield Calipers. My inside man says they're better than the DFC's.

I've had decent success with Wagner reman/loaded calipers. Only thing is to make certain the rubber slide pin bushings ate installed correctly (big end between caliper and caliper mount) and that the slide areas are flat and free from burs at the edges. Not to worry if there are burs a flier and little bit of time can knock right down. Don't forget to use a thin coat of "SLI-glide" on the flats and inside = rubber to pin areas.
