Oil Filter Change from the Bottom...

Although as said it’s silly , but you wanted it to continue, let me ask you too , I’ve asked Ron the same question. Have you EVER changed the oil filter thru the fender ? Whatever the legend maybe since 1994

For 19 years I changed the filters on the two 4B150's in the boat from the side (blind) as there was not other way. And it s u c k ed!

Why do something that takes special tools when a 5/16” socket and 30 seconds you have access.

if I didn’t remove my intake from the top I would have eventually had a hole in my boost hose leaving me along side the road.

Some things ya simply don’t do just to say you did.

No idea whether you had or not. Without the cap it’s not possible thru the fender unless you want to make a mess . A couple things doing it from the top , to start taking things apart , the other big thing leaning over , and getting that filter to go on . I read about thru the fender with the Geno cap , hated doing it thru the top , was hoping thru the fender would be easier , and it was with the cap , never looked back .

What you gentleman don’t realize going thru the fender is that filter goes straight up one handed, has no place to go but where it’s supposed to , you can feel the threaded stud center itself , jus a matter having it straight in order to screw it back on . I’ll say it once more , you haven’t done that way , I have . If it we’re easier thru the top I would do it that way , I don’t know how much more understandable I can make it .

I told you I did it one handed for 19 years on the boat and it was the pits. 2,800 hours times 2 is 5600 hours, divide that by 100 hours for oil changes and I did 56 oil changes one handed (blind) and it was the pits. From the top on the trucks I could put one hand under the filter and push it up into place and turn it with the other. As someone said Ez Pz!

I don’t care how others do it but I like to show how easy it is from the top especially the 19’s up without special tools.

Comparing a boat installation to a truck is like owning a Ford on a Cummins forum couldn’t resist. I’ve worked on lots of boats and lots of trucks, the only think consistent is that you cannot compare them.

I’ve done both on my 18 and prefer the fender method, but when the filter is the slightest pain to loosen I go from the top.

At the end of the day it really doesn’t matter, just don’t use crap filters.

Doing mine thru the fender also I cannot remove the intake and put it back on in the 40 sec it takes to R&R the filter while on the lift draining the oil, its a wasted step IMHO when its totally doable w/o taking the intake off.. no reason to remove any parts just to say I can.. and risk some damage to intake plumbing or a leak...

The deck above the engines came back to the about the back on the valve cover on cylinder #4. This is the Starboard engine with a 100 gal Starboard fuel tank out board of the engine.

This is the Port engine much easier than the Starboard if one has long arms like to. Still a one handed operation.

I did it once with a ziplock, it worked ,a bit awkward . With the cap its EZ-PZ as they say.
