Or def So new 2022 3500 ho aisin. Owners book not telling me much and search never works for me. How much does the def tank hold. How do I know how much I have. Is there a gauge. Bought 2.5 gallon square bottle. Lots like it’s going to be a bit of a pain to pour etc. tell me about. But not that you don’t like it I already know that part Thanks

My 2021 has a gauge on the dash. Not sure what the tank holds but I'm approaching 1K miles and it still says 3/4 full.

Do you have a station nearby with a DEF pump? It’s the best way to fill your DEF tank.

Page 436 of the 2022 manual states that the tank holds 5.7 gallons.

The DEF Gauge is in your instrument display on the lower left. I fill mine with 1 box of Blue DEF (2.5 gals) when the gauge reads 1/2. That will usually prevent any overfill. The boxes are a PITA. When filling have a rag handy to wipe up any spill or drips. Don't put def in the diesel fill. In fact until your used to it, put a cap or rag in the diesel fill to prevent def from entering fuel system. Truck stop def pumps are nice if you have a truck stop handy. Be aware those pumps are fast and will spill if your not paying attention.
You probably won't see the gauge move much unless your towing.

I got a Diesel Cap from Amazon to keep the Fuel tank clean. I just know I would be the guy spilling DEF in there. Comes with a weak magnet to hold it on the fuel door.

Those are nice. I had them on my 15 drw and forgot to remove them when I traded for my new 2500 srw. If I had to do it again I would just buy the diesel fuel cap. I found the little def cap was hard to get open after a month or so. I tore off a lot of bark on the backs of my fingers trying to open it. JMHO.

The DEF tanks don't use a float type gauge, it's "liniar" whatever that means. I do know that when filled, it will stay at the "Full" mark until it drops to the 60% mark before you will notice the needle start to go down.

Sometimes the pumps won't pump def if you don't use the magnet adapter. Depends on the pump and if Ram is now installing a magnet.

Never had to use a magnet in 140k. Glad I didn't cuz I would have been pissed. Lol. When I see the gauge at 1/2 it's time for 2.5 gals. This will bring it to almost full in the last 3 Ram trucks I've owned.

I asked inside, after clicking the handle about 50 times until my forearm was exhausted. It would flow a bit then stop after a second. I could hear the flow and then hear and feel the click when it stopped.
Inside at the checkout (when I told them their def pump wasn't working), they said there is a magnet protective device. I have encountered the magnet about half of the times I tried the pump (Arizona/New Mexico, and several other states). Now I carry the magnet collar with me. In Marietta, GA, that was the first time I heard about the magnet collar, so I had to buy a 2.5 gallon def box even after wasting time at the pump. In Marietta, I hadn't bought the magnet collar because I hadn't heard about it.
I was frustrated and my wife asked me what took so long when I got back to the campsite.

I've been real lucky. It's usually a hassle with a debit card at loves, Pilot etc. Having that magnet would probably lower my blood pressure. I'm usually fueling while the wife is walking the dog. One less thing to worry about at the pumps.
Speaking of truck stops, if they have rv fuel stations there still difficult to get into. No room for turning around. And wouldn't it be nice if they also had more than 2 lanes to park into after fueling. Nothing like the smell of dried piss stench in the truck parking areas.. Oh well. It gets done, but sometimes it ain't fun. 99% of the time it works out.

They usually have the boxed def inside. I don't know if supply chain issues have prevented delivery of that, tho. They have the boxes of various brands at the advance auto near my house.

You have DEF pumps in this country that work without a Magnet?
I'm stunned, as this was on our pumps in Europe as a standard since 2006 when DEF was implemented.
Keeps people to fill their fuel tank with DEF.

I truly hope that RAM has a Magnet in the filler neck as this is the other standard.

Well duh I found the gauge. I thought you had to scroll thru the menu to find it. And it was in the left hand corner of the dash . Used about 1/3 of the tank in 500 miles I think by the gauge. So if it’s 5.7 gallons about two gallons I suppose. Ordered the genos diesel and def locking caps. Bit of a learning curve and not cheap but very good quality . They sent a summer TDR magazine along. Pretty good article about how the system works on these trucks. I bought a square box of def yesterday. Good advice about using 2.5 gallons at half full on the gauge but John’s advice on going to a place with a pump is spot on. I can see where filling it with a bow will be a royal pain. I will check around here in town for a pump.Now the magnet do I need one and how does this work

You don't need one the boxes are usually plentiful.

Whether the magnet collar will pay for itself with savings from buying cheaper def, depends on how often you will find a def pump that requires a magnet collar.

I think I bought mine from Genos about 7 years ago. Amazon also has them.

I've never needed themagnet on my 14,15,or 21 Ram ctd. We fulltimed in our 5ver for 2 years, and seen a lot of fuel stations & never needed it. I better go buy lotto ticket. I ain't scared of no box either. Hahahaha. The truck stop is over an hour away from where I live, so the box it is. Thanks for the reminder Newsa.

I "HAD" one like pictured above that was green with a magnet. I stopped in Oregon for fuel and the attendant got to my truck before I could get out and he put the cap on top of my aluminum tool box. I always stuck it to the inside of the fuel door so when I finished fueling I forgot the cap and drove off. GRRRRRRR

I believe SnoKing turned me onto this one. It has a lanyard that snaps into an existing hole and you never will loose it. May not LOOK as cool but I like it MUCH better than the green one!
