I am preparing to remove and replace the entire dashboard assembly in my 1996 in the near future. (Here, near future means within the next 9 months.)

About 10 or more years ago, the TDR print edition had a detailed article on replacing the air conditioner evaporator on a 1994-1997 model. Does anyone remember which edition that was? There was a later article that was much abbreviated. I'm looking for the older, longer one.

I actually used that information to replace the heater core about 10 years ago. The dashboard assembly parts have turned to dust in some places, and shattered in others. So they need to be replaced. I have the replacements on hand. But the methods that I used at the wrecking yard to get the main dash out won't work neatly for the surrounding interior parts.

Maybe this link included the reference.

Yup. That's the one. Thank you. The abbreviated article is in issue 59 from 2008.

The article in Issue in issue 46 is the long one. I had somehow remembered it as being much longer than it really is. I was also using the instructions in the factory TSM. As Joe Donnelly wrote in issue 59, "The factory service manual adds procedures and complexity that are not needed if only the heater core is to be replaced." I found that to be true.

I think that's because the job took me three days, taking it slow. I also replaced both the heater core and the evaporator in that episode. The heater core had turned green and was leaking. It didn't appear to have been properly grounded on the assembly line.

I have the replacement LMC dash top ready. Just have not found a good time to get into it. The AC and heater are "knock on wood" working ok.
