Good morning, Gents,

I am preparing for the arrival of C. Carpenter's Patriot Blue 3500 Longhorn and FH's 3500 Limited. We have Vixen train horns for both. I prefer to mount the horns facing the front, for obvious reasons. Does any of you have a suggestion on where to mount the horns and compressor? Need to have my metal shop guy make any special brackets? Piccies are always appreciated. Thanks, Fellas!

AWWWW now I know why you are asking about location of compressor. NO you can't use the onboard unit, I was hoping to do the same with mine.

No I was not going to use the onboard compressor for the train horns. That was why I posted that inquiry separately. Do you have a suggestion how and where to mount the train horns and the compressor for sane?

I’m assuming that this means they are mounting a 2nd compressor.

Does any of you have a suggestion on where to mount the horns and compressor?

I mounted my OBA compressor to the bottom of the bed on the drivers side and then ran an air hose to the rear bumper.

My stepson when he was 16-17 bought a real cop siren and light on eBay and put on his 98 dodge He spent a night in jail and his mom had to get a lawyer to get him out of trouble. They didnt like it when he turned it on in traffic.I suspect they won’t like it much when you act like a train in traffic

Not only that, people nearby can get hurt from reacting to that kind of a blast in close quarters. I know. I was fueling my truck one time in a very busy fuel island when the driver of a truck in the adjacent bay let loose with a train horn. I jumped and almost dropped the fuel nozzle. An adult near me fell down. The family in the truck with the train horn was laughing, but I didn't see anyone else laughing. In fact, a couple guys looked like they wanted to kill someone. I think I was one of those guys.

I think there’s several flat-biller YouTube videos with the exact scenes you just described.

I had my compressor mounted under the bed pass side directly behind the cab and the tank directly behind that. Horns were behind the front bumper had an air line with a quick connect out to the rear bumper too.
I sort of sandwiched the frame rail with brackets and mounted the compressor up as high as possible. Then fabbed up a box out of some scrap alum diamond plate I had laying around on three sides for protection. That same compressor had been under my previous truck in more or less the same place as well for a total of well over 400k miles and 20 years. My previous compressor was an extreme outback model and held up very well. I just bought a new one for the 2022 truck and upgraded the compressor to the extreme outback magnum. Can’t wait to get it in but it will be going in the same place.
I did not have a train horn but a dual trumpet truck air horn. It was plenty loud enough and fit fine I have no idea on size of train horn and where it might fit

I have a problem with noise pollution. It is federal law that I believe is on the books to this date. Certainly not enforced. But, you know it's time we look at it again as recently I saw a real abuse. Riding my e bike. Mother with baby in stroller. Gang of Harley's go by me and mom on sidewalk. Not one Harley had a muffler. Poor mom tried to protect infants ears. In my day you got a ticket for straight exhaust.

Yeah... like the Carolina Squat, wheels sticking out 12" from the fender, 40" rims on a 3500.. these type of mods IMHO are for the Tic Toc generation, I see no real benefit or reason to waste ones money on it, but that JM2C

yeah... I think Jan 1 2022 its effective, but like everything else we'll see if they enforce it, LED lights, and phones are still a problem... Nothing better than a truck coming at you with the headlights shining in your eyes... or worst running you off the road because they cant see you...

And then there are people that don’t make noise causing people to step in the way.
