Funny you should ask that right now. I just worked through this exact problem with a Wyoming colleague over the last 3 weeks.
First, I gotta knock on wood and say that the OEM radiator in my 1996 is still good. Regular coolant changes, etc. Next, I have
never had an issue with purchases from Geno's Garage.
Then, I'll refer you to Page 17 of this TDR thread:
https://www.turbodieselregister.com/threads/weekend-maintenance-on-the-01.259915/page-17
That part of the
maintenance on a 2001 thread discusses radiators that fit our trucks.
The supply chain is toast. The best you may be able to do right now is find a Chinese made direct replacement. If AFE makes one that fits a 1996, I would certainly look into it. I don't think that AFE does, though. I still come back to what I said to my Wyoming colleague:
If the replacement radiator doesn't add fluid volume, it's not going to be much of an improvement if the old one ain't leakin', but if your current radiator is bad, then ignore this!
Many years ago, because of Phoenix city traffic at 115F, I added a 12 inch electric pusher fan in front of the A/C condenser. It helped some.
