comrades - this is an oil report i got today. can anyone put the fuel dilution in some perspective? 2018 ram 6.7 just did a trip from golden co to destin florida, came home and took sample. oil was fresh when i left golden. 4000 miles on the oil when i took the sample.... valvoline synthetic. truck runs good. passed emissions perfectly recently. thanks in advance. cheers all ! :)

does anyone know the standard set by cummins for fuel dilution? i have read 5 percent on the web. thanks for any input. i did idle the truck in a 100mile traffic jam in kerrisville tx last months due to an ice storm. 5 hrs in stopped traffic. maybe that was part of my number? cheers! :)

I generally run Shell Rotella T4 15w40 in my 2014 Ram 6.7 cummins. Got a good deal on T4 10w30, would there be any issues running the 10w30. Getting ready to change the oil next week, I don't want to cause any issues

The 10w30 is not the correct oil. Who knows if it'll ruin your $10,000 motor? Get tractor supply, wal mart, or costco 15w40 if you need to save a few pennies.

Did you kick the high idle on? It would keep contamination down. More heat in the cylinder from high idle means less diesel condenses back out and winds up in the oil. Did you stop/start the engine or just idle for 5 hours?

The diesel should have evaporated back out of the oil with use since then. Because it hasn't maybe it's doing a lot of regens for some reason. Cold weather may not be getting the oil hot enough? Because the viscosity, 14.56, hasn't dropped from 40 to 30 weight (hot) it's not a major problem. Also your truck uses post injection in the cylinder to clean the DPF rather than a dedicated exhaust injector like the V8's have to use to keep fuel contamination down.

Has the oil level risen? I know these are not fun to get an exact oil level reading on.

Is the fact this sample is one month old before a report was done on you or them? Month old data reduces the value of doing sampling if it finds something needing immediate action.

I'd find another lab. The marketing BS on that was making we wonder what kind of clown car testing outfit this is? ... Score? Approved stamps all over it? o_O Seriously?

oil level is normal. i idled straight for 5 hrs. it was 10 degrees out...thanks for your input. ill try another analysis next oil change...cheers! :)

It is possible, according to Cummins, to run a lighter weight oil in the pre-19 5.9/6.7. The HTHS rating needs to be at least 3.5.

I did this on my 05 and the UOA showed more wear so I went back to 15w-40 and the wear decreased, so I wouldn't recommend it. The flat tappets like a heavy oil.

The oil change light will generally come on near 5%. I tested a bunch of the early 6.7 trucks and the oil change light was fairly accurate as far a fuel dilution. I have not checked many lately for fuel just because the later trucks tended to be a little better than the early trucks.

I once had 8.4% fuel dilution on an oil analyzers/Polaris oil UOA. I suspect the truck went through several sequential active regens which the oil life indicator did not take into account. This was on a 2013 truck and the UOA was done in 2018.

There was more than 60% oil life left in the oil life counter.

Always put it on high idle during long periods or any for that matter. Cold weather will defiantly cause a higher amount of fuel dilution . I smell my oil whenever I check it you can defiantly smell the diesel if it is in there .

comrades - got the oil tested by blackstone last week. same sample or batch of oil as the first lab. the first report said i had high fuel in my sample 2.5% . blackstone gave me a glowing report. and the fuel dilution was now 0.5

i guess ill not worry about the shop queen for now...i tend to trust blackstone more than the other lab i had the first analysis performed at. cheers all!

:)

My friends ran his 13 six speed with 170k nearly 22k. Blackstone said try 24K next time. He is using AMZ/OIL DME 15-40 and their oil filter. The part that I am wondering about is the 1.0% fuel percentage. He used no oil. My fuel is always less than 0.5% at 15k.

You fence setters on AMZ/OIL may want to reconsider. :D

Your pic does not show all the text or what the 8,100 mile universal averages show for comparison. My Son's deleted 15 running AMZ/OIL's Diesel and Marine 15-40 had 29 ppm Iron at 19,000 miles.
