In my 03 2500 can I load and carry a short distance on a paved road a weight of "One Ton" as in a ton of pellets for my new pellet stove?

Yes. I used to carry a 3,500 lb truck camper much farther than a short distance. Just air up your rear tires to at least 65-70 psi.

I've done it multiple times. I considered having 2 pallets of pellets put on, but I didn't want to handle/stack that many bags. (my tractor's forks won't lift off a full pallet)

I always put a couple crisscrossing straps over the pellets. Maybe I'm paranoid (and maybe they wouldn't do much anyway) but just in case of an accident or evasive maneuver, I don't want it sliding or falling over.

My old truck would barely squat with a full load of firewood.

I carried two pallets in the bed of my 05 a couple of times, but I was running LRG 19.5” tires. RAW with one pallet is around 5,500 lbs, so plenty of tire capacity at 65-70 psi.

Two pallets is around 7,500lbs and needs more than OEM tires on a 3rd, or even 4th, Gen.

The sky is nearly the limit compared to 250cc rickshaws and scooters carrying Hino truck frame sections to and from shops balanced on the back in Pakistan.

It's already been said but tire/pressure is really the only consideration.

On a side note about tires, I saw a Tesla launch from a stoplight recently while driving for AAA. Boy was it stupid fast, all I could think about after seeing it was "if tires get any better and EV tech gets cheaper; I'm going to start picking these things up out of ditches like chargers and challengers on a Friday night."

Ludicrous acceleration is not exaggerated - these cars are insane.
Extremely impressive.

0 - 60 in 1.99 sec. - that is top, even faster then a Motorcycle.
