I finally got my first Cummins. A 2016 Ram 3500 with 170k miles. I was told it has a full delete. Please, what do I need to watch out for and/or do for proper maintenance?

Did you get the programmer with it?

The owners manual can be found on Ram’s website if you don’t have one. It’s got all the recommended maintenance.

If you don’t know the service history I would change all the fluids out, to include brake and power steering.

Ozzy, I haven't been in a Dodge/Ram dealer since 2009, after they screwed up my last oil change there, overfilled the engine oil. If I need work on the truck that I can't do myself the truck will go to an independent service garage, that I trust.

Jim your old truck is so much easier to care for them the new ones, like mine, which was the main reason to buy such a classic.
On these oldies I think, just think, no one really cares for. The new ones have so much more electronic gadgets that the chance is very high to need wiTech one day to keep it running.

Hope you do not live in a state that does inspections to license it! BIL brought a deleted truck to Arizona and was told to get the truck out of the inspection station when the guy saw that it was deleted. He had gotten all the stuff removed when he bought, and I told him to hang onto it. Well he sold their home in Ohio and he threw the stuff away. He ended up licensing it in SD. Then he moved from AZ to SC and was finally able to sell it along with his 5th wheel trailer.

I did not get a programmer with it. I have already changed the oil, Trans fluid, coolant and fuel filters. I'll be servicing the brakes as soon as possible.

I'm in Alabama, no testing. I'm actually looking at trying to take it back to stock as I don't know enough about diesels to run modified. Is that feasible or worth it?

You would most likely been better off buying a non deleted vehicle. Depending on what was removed, it can be very expensive. Can you work with the seller to put it back to stock?

For all the stuff that was removed, check Craigslist and ebay for people selling their deleted stuff.
I needs to be exactly for your model year.

Depending on how much was taken out it can be, like said, very expensive from the dealer. Easy up and above 10'000$ - that emissions stuff is like gold.

So, check out what was taken away first, if too much, buy another truck and sell this to someone that wants a deleted one.

If your truck has the slightest amount of "rolling coal" from exhaust, you'll draw attention to yourself! As others have stated, putting back to stock may cost more than if you'd bought a new truck! Your truck, your choice! More and more states having to crack down due to the hold back on Federal $ since it's an EPA violation. Good luck with your endeavor.

Deleted or not-deleted is your choice, but buying it without the programmer is a major issue. You need to take it back, or go get the programmer. Unfortunately, it’s that simple.

And Aoedon, you were told it was deleted at purchase so you can't go blame the previous owner and say you didn't know when you do get a DOT inspection on an interstate.

Few get busted on weight issues and fines are not that high, that can not be said for delete fines that can be very expensive. Think 10k and up to a record 1.1 million for Team Allied! EPA is working their way down the food chain.
