Bought some retired street signs (so I was told) for some body work. $20, the bonus was the shotgun pellet damage(gonna save on that one).

Took a few measurements and then proceeded to eye ball it with great success.

More cutting and eye balling ensued, along with broken drill bits jammed harbor freight rivet guns until I produced from the ashes of oxidation a masterpiece.

An implement like no other!

It's no secret why they rust the way they do,the wheel arches are exposed internally allowing water and road debris to pile up inside and sit since there aren't any drains. Will this stop the rust? No I just cut the ugly out, at some point I'm going to install a flat bed. But this will last a long while before that happens.

You may have noticed the rivet all the way off to the left of said implement... That was my attempt to pin the rest of the sign inside the quarter to the body. Why didn't I cut the sign before installing it you ask? I was impatient and growing increasingly dehydrated from the effects of climate change. (I'm going to retire in a Nordic country if the temps keep rising like this)

Alot of people say the words "work truck", "old mule", "beater "," family hauler "," contractor wagon" etc. in reference to their trucks. I call my truck by name "Giovanna Basia De Sirou" aka "Gina"

20 years on the road and she's still a eye catcher!

Don't try this on something you've got payments on or with a SO who complains alot.

Why not just install some fender flares?

Not that im fishing for compliments or attention, but on the left bed side I did the same years ago but on a smaller area with the license plate from the truck that I traded in for this one.

It was a spur of the moment decision after I had finished an 8 hour hand wash and wax, took out a cut off wheel and touch up pen and jammed the plate in between the seem and topped it off with a motorcycle bell hanging in the lower bolt hole for the plate.

Since then I've gotten a swath of compliments from strangers and lots of pictures taken between that and my mural of anime stickers on my tailgate. I take no small amount of pride in the immense amount of work I've done and continue to do to my truck. Not to mention all that it's taught me and I in turn have passed on to others. That being said I recognize that it still has inherent utility to me and isn't something untouchable on a pedestal. Mortal hands never craft anything everlasting.

I'm rambling here but in short, I think a lot of people take their vehicles too seriously to a point where they can't enjoy them or utilize them in a form of self expression. I genuinely like how the street sign came out, especially the pun on the word implement as its used physically as a verb in the fender. It adds a good bit more character to my truck. Anyone could've just covered some fender rust with plastic flares, and it'd just be another rusty wheel arch Dodge. My intention isn't to use my truck as an example, but in my own process its become one and my thoughts on it followed after. Enjoy the drive.

It should go without saying you can't act a fool driving something like this.

"Yes officer, It was a Gold Dodge pickup with a black off-road front bumper, a center cab light that's out, silver front wheels, black rear wheels, a whole bunch of anime stickers, a green street sign in the right rear fender, a license plate in the rear left fender, and a custom license plate at the rear spelling something I probably don't need to look up on google"
