This is exactly why BMW and Mercedes no longer sell diesels to comply in the United States! Just pure ridiculous, and they didnt buy into the Democrats Dumbing Down Campain in America! The EV push is strictly due to investments! There was a comparable study of a Chevrolet Volt against a Ford Superduty 250 Diesel on greeness! The Volt left the bigger footprint........Hmmmm
You are correct, it's not about being green or saving the planet or even common sense. And it's happening in Europe, too. It's all about control. Everyone must pay homage to the WEF.
 
Earlier, I mentioned I lock my OBDII plug on my truck so there is no unauthorized access/updates to my truck,

I have a question, like Terry and others, I would like to lock out the unmonitored techs, but since our trucks need the security bypass cables to do anything (the OBD port only has a couple wires) will locking that port out actually stop them on a 19+ truck?

I'm not sure, mine is 2017. I'm not aware of another OBDII port, so not sure if WiTech has security unlock feature in it. Maybe ask @sag2 if he knows.

Could they, yes… will they, no. The only method the techs use is the OBDII port. So yes, it will stop them.
 
Got my "wonka" ticket today! Guess I'll schedule my appointment to get it over with, NOT! I highlighted some key things on the recall letter. Seems to bring the truth to the surface with the smell! :rolleyes:

wiTECH has the security feature built in to bypass the security module. If you added the bypass cable for Alfa OBD wiTECH can still communicate with the vehicle if the OBD connector has the two bus wires, power and ground. It will communicate just like any 2017 or prior truck without the security module.

Can also be done with the Autel Chrysler adapter for the newer trucks to bypass the Security Module.

Why should we be expected to burn our evil diesel fuel to take our trucks to the Dealer??? They should send out the Tech in a"GREEN" EV to our trucks resting place to do the recall.

You what is really sketchy... not like I care that much, but I never paid attention to it till I got the title for my new diesel truck. But in NYS, the abbreviation for the Fuel Type on a vehicle title is "DIE". Why not "DSL", instead of a grim word like DIE??? I kind of felt a little ticked off by it. :rolleyes:
 
I ran my truck for 15 or 20k miles with what was the wrong software. I'm not sure how the dealer did that, but I'm guessing that the software that they put in it was the C&C software. Since mine is an HO engine, it just felt wrong. Actually it ran okay, a little doggy, but it got slightly better mileage than the correct software. It took a lot to convince them to shoot the software to it again but they finally put the latest for my machine back in it and it was instantly back to performing as it had day one. Nevertheless, a few days ago I ordered a tune saver from Genos; and today I received my recall notice. Mine is an 18 HO SRW. Fortunately my state doesn't care if I never update the software.

How in the world can they do the C&C software? I thought it was limited to a "build spec" burned into the ECU? Unless the tech just didn't care and did it anyways and forced it?!
 
Unknown, captain. It was clearly the wrong software. I'm guessing it was C&C software. It didn't respond as well as the original software, and I never towed anything heavy using the wrong software. The correct software feels right.

Your story is enlightening to me about engine software updates. I always thought they were coded to the VIN, but now seems it's more tied to the awareness of the technician.

But then again, I'm running a custom HO tune on my 5500 C&C that really wakes it up. Great that it got straightened out.
