Recently acquired 21 3500 HO Aisin from CJD dealer in Illinois. Truck came off lease w/33k on it. As part of my purchase truck was supposed to be "serviced" prior to pickup. Just hit 36k and started my first service. Have discovered a motorcraft oil filter, and mystery fuel filter with NO markings. Air filter was the dirtiest i've ever seen in 50 years of servicing heavy equipment. Rather disappointed but not surprised. A dealer will always be a dealer....
So now i'm going right through it with all fresh lubes and filters front to back.
Does anyone know if ATF+4 is compatible with the transfer case ?
I only ask because I have a pail of it from our other Rams and would like to use it..

First thing is you trusted :)rolleyes:) the dealer to service the truck! Only would have taken a few minutes to check over "their" service. The oil filter is one of the easiest to see and verify. I hope that it will give you the service and enjoyment that you're looking for despite the rough start with the dealer.
Can't answer the transfer case question but know that the topic has come up many times with some saying that they come from BW filled with Dex-III. you should be able to search transfer case and find the threads about it. I do know for sure you CAN'T use it in the transmission!
Enjoy the seat time!

as Cummins12v98 mentioned amsoil should be just fine as I know many have used it with no reported ill effects. On my 17 I used atf4(as have many others) with no problems for over 100k miles when I sold it. I am getting ready to do my 22 and will probably use same though I may put in an order from amsoil since I will be doing the front and rear diffs as well and have had great service in the past using their 75/110 severe gear for multiple hundreds of thousands of miles on my 01 and 17 diffs.

IIRC it has been reported that the transfer cases came with dexron III from BW factory

Topzide thanks I really do like the truck (so far). It's a pleasure compared to my 2005 3500. Just have to get accustomed to all the emissions and electronics. I really don't miss shifting the 6spd. What is your opinion of the Centramatic balancers ?

@adnach, Don't sweat the emission stuff, there's been a lot of years into it now with few issues. I love the Centramatics! They have smoothed out the ride quality even more without having to spend more for balancing. If I get even a slightly better tire wear, I'll be happy! Less wear and tear overall on the truck is what I was looking at when getting them. Last trip, was 80 + before the first shake started. Couldn't say that before even with perfectly balanced tires! All the electronics in the new trucks can be a distraction, but does make the ride even more enjoyable for all of the occupants!

What @Topzide has mentioned about the emissions is 100% true. 2019 and above, I wouldn't worry too much about the emissions systems.

Look around on here, there aren't a lot of people complaining in general.

Some like to do the "weight loss" usually because something already broke.

Me personally, with the way things are with the focus on diesel emissions, I'm against anyone doing a "weight loss" tactic especially on new trucks.

I got a friend in PA that bought a brand new 2023 2500, and already did a "weight loss" package on it. Not even 1,000 miles! It's their truck though. I told them in a friendly way, "Don't be one of those that ruin it for the rest of us...".

He now has no warranty on the truck with removal of the emissions equipment! He needs to read the decree about the debacle going on right now. Any vehicle found to have the emissions equipment to be altered or removed to have said equipment replaced or repaired at owners expense! They're even looking at the software that's been put in the truck for alterations!

As they say "the few ruin it for the many".

He knows what he did was "not good", but continued to spend the money to do it anyways. The shop he had it done at apparently chopped it all off right before the DOC/DPF assembly and welded on the straight pipe. So now it will require welding to get it back to factory, instead of bolts and flanges. On top of that they man handled it and broke one of the sensors clear off. So if he were to return it back to having emissions, it now requires a new sensor and time for someone to either weld it back on, or replace the pipe to get a new flange fitting.

I would never do what he did, especially with a $90k truck and with the current focus like you state. Not a good position I'd want to be in.

I like what you said... As they say "the few ruin it for the many".

Transfercase takes ATF+4.

Technically the BW's from ~2010+ (can't recall if it was a 4th gen swap or right after 4th gen) take a BW fluid, not ATF +4. It's common belief that the BW fluid for the HD transfer cases is Dex-III as @Topzide mentioned.

There are many reports of people using ATF+4 in these transfer cases without issue. I personally use Amsoil Signature Series ATF in my transfer case and Aisin transmission. It has both the Mopar/BW transfer case and Aisin ASRC part numbers listed on the bottle, as well as ATF+4.

I have done both fluid change and filter fluid change on the AISIN 2016-2020. Question is, has any aftermarket manufacturer made a pan that has a angled rear wall to make access to the PITA bolts easier? Or am I still using the "wobble socket/extension etc?"

Visual entertainment.

@Cummins12V98, Have a drawer with modified tools to solve the problems! I'm always stopping a yard/flea sales for odd tools just for such. Also will go HF and cobble together two wrenches to fit a specific need. Did that very thing with toolbox on the tractor. I'll cut and TIG together different sizes of open or box combos. Cuts down on the tools carried. I've got a 9mm box with a 12mm open for a specific tasks. Built an open end with a socket for a friend to fix his truck a few years back. He couldn't believe that I'd do that. Had all the extra stuff in a box, so why not. Some stuff, I'll paint them colors to make easier to find. I do like the swivel shallow sockets and sometimes add a rare earth magnet to hold fastener.

I chopped up a box/open end 11/16" wrench to bust the nut loose when adjusting the clutch on my HD. Yea it's rewarding to make something work for a specific project.

I wouldn't be surprised if dealers soon will be required to rat out the vehicle if one comes for service that's been lightened.

Here in NY, they've changed to all digital safety and emissions stickers. VIN/Mileage/Date/Time/Plate are right on the front of the sticker. No more tomfoolery with folks just giving these stickers out no more in NY. If a vehicle has a OBDII port, it will get plugged in, even if it's past the 25 year part (no emissions required after 25 years in NYS). The system is smart enough to figure it out because it's tied to the DMV.

This year when I went to go get my trailers inspected, it took them twice as long to do it versus just writing some stuff down and grabbing a sticker out of the register drawer and using the hole punch to knock out the T (trailer) hole...

A friend of mine who has a deleted diesel (done out of NY state) has a couple CELs on and no one wants to work on it because it's deleted. For the past three years he's been getting a shop to just slip an inspection sticker thru for him. Totally illegal, I know. I told him he ought to pony up the cash and undelete the truck and get it fixed it's in great condition and low mileage.

So yeah, no more people being able to do this using a post it note... LOL
