Good-bye EcoDiesel, Hello Cummins

I have an 8' bed on my regular cab F150 and I love it. The 3500 Cummins work truck I drive has the 6'4" bed. We have a few of each of the 6 footers and the 8 footers. But the 5'4" bed on my 1500 is just too short, except for hauling groceries.

So Stellantis (?sp) is closing a Ram truck plant in the US due to discontinuation of a truck? Which one?

It's the RAM 1500 Classic (model code: DS) truck. Stellantis is culling a lot of work. Talk about that feeling of being disposable. I feel very bad for the workers.

I think the ECO diesel was probably a great rig for the level. The whole environmental stuff that diesel and nuclear bad is crazy. Someone from CA just caught me in the parking lot with my truck as you see it in my picture. He told me you cant have a diesel motor over 10 years old in CA now. Is that true?

I don't know CA laws.

When done right, diesel is very, very clean and environmentally friendly. It's also proven to be easier to make sustainable (bio/renewable) fuels than fuels like ethanol. It's just politics behind all of it.

I found the link to the 5500 specifications that had detailed measurements of cab to axle, axle to back etc etc but now I cant find the darn link. why this is so hard to find again is amazing as upfitters need all the dimensions.

Generally a 2010-or-later engine is allowed, though they're aiming at commercial vehicles. Pickups have always been defaulted to commercial vehicles but years ago having a camper mounted to a pickup got around that, and I doubt you'd have an issue visiting here with a camper on any pickup. Of course this is CARB we're talking about, so subject to change without notice...

I cant see how even as absurd as they are where they could mandate you to purchase a newer vehicle (at your expense) when your current vehicle is compliant for the emissions level of that model year. When I lived there several decades ago, the rule for re-power or custom modifications was you had to meet the emissions level of the vehicle model year, especially with fuel change, but no limit on age. Of course that was in the 90s. Seems like it would be more of an issue with OTR com trucks than personal vehicles. JM2C.

Not to change the state, I'm in NY, and after 25 years, the vehicle automatically becomes emissions exempt for inspections. I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota. I might be doing a diesel swap on it in a few years, so in my case, that works in my favor. I just *HOPE* that doesn't change. Man I'd be mad if it did. lol

But the whole commercial Cali-emissions thing with 10 years is insane control. I'm surprised the state hasn't been sued. However, driving isn't a "constitutional" right if y'all catch my drift.

The OOIDA did sue Commiefornia over the DPF retro-law. I quit delivering auto parts and RV’s there because of CA’s DPF retro-law. Fun fact the current VP was the CA AG named in the lawsuit. Interstate Commerce Clause was more or less thrown out of court as not proper venue: what is proper was not answered!

Bluntly this upcoming election has consequences for Diesel Power!

The 2010 or newer requirement is for vehicles over 14k GVWR. It caught a bunch of small business owners in a pinch. The stupid part was they were all sold out of state, so our border states suffered the emissions. The net effect was we just moved the concern from us to you. Politicians never think about the consequences of their decisions.
