I am having more problems with my newly purchased 2014 2500 with 61K on it. I got the P20EE code and trying to figure it out. Background - I bought the truck a couple of weeks back From an older couple [ older than me and I'm 81] that seldom drove it after selling their 5th wheel camper. They filled with DEF last winter And it has sat most of the time since they have a smaller car with better mpg.
With it setting all summer outside in high temp would this make the DEF go bad and cause the P20EE code? I plan to buy fresh, find out how to drain and blow out lines. I hope this is my problem so I can sell it and go back to my 2004 that is a lot simpler.
All help is greatly apricated.

I would first try dumping the DEF and refilling it with known quality DEF, reset the code, and then try driving again.

Alternatively, if you want, you can buy a DEF refractometer off Amazon for cheap and take a sample of the DEF inside the tank. See if it's in the neighborhood 32.5% UREA.

The other issue could be the DEF nozzle is clogged/crystalized with solids. I would take that off and clean it with warm water or use a Bissel Steamshot (or equiv.).

IIRC, that code is also somewhat generic, could be something further upstream causing high levels of NOx. Such as a CAC/intake hose problem. Along with a bad sensor/chewed wire.

Others will chime in, I'm confident.

As a side note on the 2004... I hear ya. I still miss my 2002. A fellow down the street from me keeps pushing his 2001 2500 Cummins on me for a decent price -- but it needs work (body and worn out engine stuffs). I love my 2020 EcoD, emissions and all. Will never go back to gasoline -- only diesel from now on.

Wonder if you have ever ran your VIN for recalls and notices.

If all you have is a P20EE you need to be on a current software level, there are multiple TSB that I see related to this one, top of the list is latest update.

If you have other codes address them first.

But in general I would be checking the VIN for notices and see about having a local shop check the software levels.

Recalls being done are only a part of it. There maybe TSB's that are updates to the software in the truck. Sometimes new software helps with the issues that we run across. I would pull the DEF injector to check for crystallization. I've put this in my maintenance log to due every other year or sooner if mileage warrants. It does sound like a tank of bad DEF. Getting the proper tool to check is a big step in the right direction! Good luck with the investigation!

Well I drained the def tank and checked it and it was at 32.5 but I replaced it anyway. Then on to the injector. I had trouble getting it out, the little white plastic ring was tricky until I watched on U tube how to get it off. I cleaned it and noticed a little damage to the seal (I think that is a seal) please see photo. def injector.jpg . So I ordered one from Geno's and noticed a gasket for it, I didn't see a gasket on mine. Do they all have a gasket? When I get it put on I will post result's.

I can't remember, but I think you're seeing the gasket. I keep several gaskets in stock, for when and if I need one. Plan on pulling mine at least every 2 years if not sooner! Just one of those things that you add to the list to do with maintenance!

repetitive emission problems go a long way towards explaining why many people
end up performing weight loss surgery to their trucks once the warranty expires and the truck has issues.
Assuming the end user lives in a place that doesn't test.

I have no issue with the idea of cleaning up the exhaust
but the idiots who decided that 150 mile countdown was an appropriate inducement
to getting repairs obviously do not live and function in the real world.

Still having problems with the P20EE code. I replaced the DEF and injector, cleared the check engine and it came back on after about 50 miles. I stopped at O Reilly to check and their computer came back with cad. conv. problem. I bought a bottle of cleaner that is supposed to clean it, going to try it today. I will post the results.

your vehicle is probably subject to recall... its worth taking it to the dealer to see if it is. I do recall Mopar Cummins did have to repair/replace some SCr units back in that time frame..

The S87 was done in February 2017 at Ferman CDJR, the 67A was done in January 2024 at Victory CDJR, so you have an extended warranty on many of the SCR parts under the XQ1 extended warranty.

With having the 67A extended warranty, let the dealer get it figured out. I just hope that if it's the SCR, you won't have to wait 30+ days for repairs to be completed. They replaced the forward NOX and SCR on mine after the 67A recall was done. Call your dealer to get it scheduled. Good luck getting it figured out.

Well the CEL went off but came back on in about 50 miles. I am going to schedule an appointment at the local dealership although I don't trust dealerships. I had a very bad experience with my 04 while on the road.
I recently moved to the Myrtle Beach area (Conway, SC) and don't know of any good shops in the area, anyone know of any around here?
