Here I am

does Cummins actually call the new 6.7 engine

Thanks, TDR Staff

2025 order run around

2025 Ram 2500/3500 6.7 Cummins

a Evolution?

Harley called one of their famous engines the Evolution.
aka the EVO.

it would almost seem like a patent infringement for Cummins to use the same name.
but what do I know. :)

This is no different then the 350, whether it was carb or fuel injection! The name implies the CID of the engine and can continue to be used across many different variations of that platform. Was still a 6.7 when block was CGI and hydraulic lifters, now a solid machined block and hydraulic lifters. Just not sure that the fuel filter changes will be much fun.

On a bus or vocational truck, it looks welcoming.

However, when I was under the hood of the 2025, me being a short dude, I had a hard time reaching in to get to the rear most filter. The other problem I see is not much room to use a longer ratchet if the caps get stuck on.

Only other thing I don't like is the oil filter and those two fuel filters are upside down. It just welcomes foreign objects to fall in.

I have the same type of oil filter on my EcoD, and I am VERY careful to clean it all up and make sure nothing goes down the hole. I just don't like the design in terms of longevity.

I also see the Mopar oil filters are $76. This is another thing I don't particularly care for is the oil filter on my EcoD is that if in an emergency or what not, Walmart or Autozone doesn't carry it along with the added expense versus using a spin on canister. My local Walmart carries a majority of the Mopar spin on oil filters (including the one for the previous Cummins), along with Ford and GM filters.

everybody stocks an oil filter for the five nine and the six seven as it was the same thing forever.. one of those it fits from 89 to 2024 things... did they go to a new oil filter thread and filter head on the latest greatest iteration of six seven? I know the industrial models use a different oil filter, but reality is the only thing different is the thread size of the filter.. a person can switch the nipple and use either or oil filter if they want to.

Where have you been?:)

This is the new one, filter insert.

The engine mounted fuel filter has been that way for a long time, but it’s not really as issue as the flow is outside in. Anything that falls in the open filter will get filtered before it’s used.

So you’re not sure what is being used on the MY25 6.7, but you’re complaining about it?

Really who cares that the oil filter has been the same since ‘89? The fuel and air filters have proven to be far more vital to the health of this engine and they change fairly often.

I didn't complain... I simply commented on Diesel 85 comment about the oil filter design change.. whether he was complaining ir not is up to you to figure out, I was just pointing out the history of that particular filter. :)

It's just me nitpicking. lol

Oh boy, we have a brand new engine generation and a new design filter and people complain about the fact they can't find a filter in the Aftermarket after just a month since the release? Unreal.

What Nick/I were talking about is dealers (not aftermarket) do not have any MOPAR filters in stock yet.

Why should they have them right now, trucks are barely out the show rooms yet. If someone needs one they can probably order it I guess.
I clearly don't see the point.. sorry for that.

Trucks have been out for a month. Hotshot guys will need some now...Not when Fleetguard/Mopar get around to it. Plus, the guys that change oil early, first time out. The point is, they are not in the systems yet. Search the part number and you get "that number is no good".

Couldn't find an LF16453 Fleetguard oil filter either, but I did find instructions for changing the filter on the 2025 Ram. For some reason I can't make the link live - you will have to cut and paste.

Edit - I removed the cross reference filters for the LF16453 oil filter because they were incorrect.

AI has it wrong. Those are for spin on filters. LOL Gotta love AI.

I'm wonder when the filters will be coming?

Seems to be widely available and in stock.

This is the first of many results looking for that filter.

Thanks for the link, that is the first filter I have seen. I ordered one. I check with Geno's almost daily but nothing yet. They do show on page 6 of their paper catalog the Fleetguard LF16453 is coming soon. Fuel filters? forget it. Same thing I found when I bought my '21, fuel filters always on back order. This was 3 years of production on the '19+.

So yes, I am concerned because the track record speaks for itself. $95 Mopar oil filter grips me, as does your comments in post 12 & 14...
