I'm 39 going on 40 in July:{ :D

Got my '89 back in September of last year and I must say it is a joy to work on compared to my '02 with all the electronics and such. There is a good feeling knowing the old girl is paid for.

My coworkers car broke down one night at work and I gave him and his two boys a ride home about 65 miles. The one boy (10) says this thing sounds like my school bus:D I just chuckled and said "why thank you!"

It's fun being part of the First gen. forums here!

Whew, a couple more 30 somethings. . . I was starting to feel a little old here. 36 in May :p

I like the 1st gen trucks because I like working on my vehicles, plus it's what Dodge trucks always looked like while I was growing up. I've had 6 Dodge trucks (8 if you include a Trail Duster a while back, and a Ram Charger I have now. ) Two turbo diesels. I wanted one ever since I visited a Dodge dealer in '89 to check them out, but I went back to school instead of buying one. Finally got the first - slightly damaged - one on a trip through North Dakota in '97. Took out a cash advance, worked on it for a day, and drove it home, pulling a trailer and a 1960 Chrysler my friend bought. Got home and sold my ex-National Guard 1977 D200, and my Mercedes 240D to pay for it, since I now had my pickup and diesel driver in one vehicle...

Well I got you all beatOo. Oo. Oo. ow that hurts:D . I know Jesus was a Ford man 'cause I saw him riddin' a mule or walkin':D :D . I will be 62 -not 62. 5 in 18 more days. If you want to see a senior citizen smoke just follow me when I put my foot into my "enhanced" '93.

Bob:cool:

39 years, 330 days, 4 hours, 59 minutes..... :{ and I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up.

hdm48- how do I get on that plan? Shouldn't you be hdm47 by now :D

I am 25 and have two first gens because they are the best trucks on the road. Plus I can afford them getting started farming. I got to drive a 1990 D-250 when I was 16 and have been hooked on a Cummins ever since.

Shouldn't you be hdm47 by now

That's a good one!

He probably forgot already!!:-laf

I bought my truck a couple of years ago. I had already repowered my boat with a Cummins 270 HP engine... P pumped. I went Cumins based on recommendations from a boating friend on my dock... an old timer at 90 today, that built his own boat in 89 and powered with a Cummins 210 marine that has given him impeccable service with literally NO maintenance. AND he bought a CTD in 94 because his boat engine was soooooo good.

I did the same... marine first and truck 2nd. Figured good practice and training... . by sea and by land!!!!

Man, what diverse group of ages!! I'm 39 and bought my 93 about 3 years ago. It rattles and smokes and scares the neighborhood kids - I love it!! Really enjoy this first gen forum and all of the great info therein.

We had some shady looking characters running around the farm today, and I parked my pickup sideways in the driveway, and left it there while I finished feeding the cattle. One of the hired hands passed by, saw my pickup parked sideways, and knew something was up, and came down the 1/4mi driveway to check on me. We talked for 30 min, and the hard ground thawed out, and my darn one wheel drive started spinning in the 1/4" mud. Finally got it out, after some red- line forward- stop- red-line in reverse- stop- repeat. He later said that engine sounded "damn good. " Of course, the turbo whistles like a big rig sitting there:D :D at 650rpm, even with the crushed tailpipe.

Gotta love the first gen trucks. 270K on an all original (ok, injectors, and HG) Ford or Chevy boat anchor? Naaahhhhh. Wouldnt mind a 92 Ford body, though.

"Deacon" Daniel

(hey, it was East Coast's idea, not mine. )

How old

Dang, most of you guys are just getting started. Let an old timer tell you about age. It's in your body and not your mind. If you have your health, it isn't even in your body. The only time I think of my age is when I see that old guy looking at me in the mirror. I HAVE gotten to the point that life looks different to me. Like Minnie Pearl, I'm so proud to be here. There have been about 20% of the guys and girls in my graduating class that have gone on. Pacemakers, by-pass and such are the conversation of a good many of them.

And a word to you beginners. Cigaretts and whiskey can be blames for a big percentage of those health problems/wrecks. Drugs like today didn't exist back when I would have tried them. Get high on diesel fumes and leave the other stuff strickly alone.

On a lighter note I am on the road all over and I can tell you that the average age of first genners is a lot higher than the average here. That is probably from the fact that some older guys haven't gotten onto the computer.

My first diesel pickup was a Phord. Converted one to Perkins power back in about 78 or 79. Knew how good the Cummins diesel would be for a one ton. Helped with the installation of a Cummins back in 88. It went in a four door Chevy. All kinds of trouble with trannys and clutches. Knew from the Ford and Chevy that I SERIOUSLY WANTED a Dodge. Owned and drove the Chevy till I could afford the Dodge that my brother bought new. A 93 D350. I like the Cummins and Dodge because they together have been almost the cheapest truck I ever owned. The cheapest was the Chevy with the Cummins. I drove it 100k and sold it. Got every penny back.

I have five Dodge trucks, three with Cummins. They work for me, I just hold them in the road.

1stgen4evr

Like to have forgot, I am 61.

30 in june 220,000 miles only put in alt. brushes, water pump, inj. pump at 180,000, no transmission trouble (auto od), or rear end yet. knock on wood.

This is good reading. Rolling Rock and I got something in common. (except I dont drink it often) Got started into Dodges with a M-37, then a WDX Power Wagon. Used to be curious about diesel power, and thought I wanted to put the 6bt from my 90 D350 into the WDX until I drove it a while. . Now I want another first generation truck.

Love How quickly the Engine fires up, when you hit the key. So much nicer than the distributerless ignition EFI motors that have to spin around to find TDC to know which piston is going in what directon.

I was 45 years old when I bought my truck back in 96.

You do the Math.

I bought her because it was the best truck out there at the time.

I had a 1971 Ford Camper special and it just got worn to a nub.

I think about things much the same as when I was 21 but when I look in the mirror I see my Dad.

Ohhhhh I don't know Daniel... we got a couple "senior" members who are in line for "alter boy'ing" and "deacon'izing" ahead of you... .

Patience my son, all is well with the universe... well, sorta. .

pastor bob.

I can't believe I have been away from the TDR long enough for a 4 page thread to appear!

I'll be 45 this summer, I would guess I'm in the 'older' half of the membership here. Having an older truck is a natural for me, I like old stuff that works good. I would really like to build a diesel powered 'classic' four wheel drive pickup, perhaps an old Jeep. Too many dreams and not enough hours. (or money)

I am 39 and holding... . (44 if the wife is in earshot).

The first Dodge I ever drove was a 1966 Power Wagon with the venerable hillside hemi. I have owned a Dodge in one form or another since 1975.

Anything design that can last 30 years with only minor changes gets my vote.

There have been about 20% of the guys and girls in my graduating class that have gone on.

James, I went to my 20th reunion in 95. Out of 78 of us, 11 were already gone. that's over 15%. Hope that means the rest of us have better odds.

I WON!!!!

I AM 16 :D :D :D

don't kill me

and i refuse to get any older (i listen to my elders) i have been hooked on Cummins since 10!!! i know, i was brought up right.

my mom bought a "outback". i know now why imports suck... . i can't fix them!!!:(

i bought my truck from my friend and "HE" has a broken trans. and it cost alot to fix but it is worth every penny i have to put into it.

i love old tractors and trucks (they are easier to fix) i'm in the process of expanding my collection (this isn't cheap)

but i still won hehehehehehehehehe you guys can just wish you are my age
