David, you mentioned some concern about the amount of weight on the rear of your truck related to steering as well as tire wear. I’ve nothing to add to the tire wear issue.
I’ve hauled an Arctic Fox 990 truck camper a number of years and for the past five a 1150 which is basically the same...
I had the same issues with my multifunction switch that resolved after cleaning the contacts. It was an easy fix.
I found a detailed instruction with pics at How To: Multifunction Switch Remove/Clean/Install - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums. The first post had some problems with...
Thanks, Ozy. I heard about using a torx but wondered if that would only make it worse. If I can't get a good fit with the metric I'll give a tight torx a try.
I've tried several 3/8 Allen/H-10 sockets on the fill plug for my NV273D t-case but all have a little slop as they don't fit tight in the plug. Now one of the flats on the plug is beginning to round out from one of the corners of a socket.
Any suggestions as to how to get an Allen fitting to...
I’m leaking ATF thru what looks like a weep hole between the 48RE and NV273D. What’s the likely cause?
The weeping seems continuous with the truck at a slight incline in the driveway. I assume there is at least one seal on either the transmission output or the t-case input… or maybe one on each...
Although the "strap wrench" worked there was still some rotating of the balancer and it took a great amount of torque to break each bolt free. Could this process damage the rubber dampener? I know anything is possible but not knowing how these things are put together I wonder how likely it...
FLUIDAMPR INSTALL 5.9 CUMMINS the EASY way-YouTube located at shows using a ratchet strap to keep the harmonic balancer from rotating. He demonstrates the process at both the 3:00 minute and 12:00 minute marks. He also mentions the key is to not secure the ratchet part of the strap in-line...
Thanks Timd32,
I saw the Amazon listed barring tools. I admit to being a little leary of putting a lot of torque on those for fear of them breaking or chipping.
I did just finish seeing a youtube where a guy showed how to rig a ratcheting strap to hold the balancer fast to remove and...
Darkbloodman,
So no pry bar to hold the stamped steel harmonic balancer in place while I'm pulling a long socket handle to loosen the bolts.
You said, "Soft taps to get it off, keep in mind it's not meant to take impacts..." I know I need to be careful to avoid damaging the harmonic balancer...
Difficulty removing harmonic balancer
Trying to replace the front crankshaft oil seal and having difficulty removing the harmonic balancer. The harmonic balancer spins when I try to remove the mounting bolts. I haven’t seen this issue in any of the youtubes or forum writeups involving the 5.9...
