2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bilstein Shocks - My Impressions

Yeah, I was tempted to use the urethane bushings from my old Ranchos. They looked in good shape. Anyway, I didn't I thought it might effect the performance of the Bilstein's. If I have any problems with the Bilstein bushings, I will put the old bushings back on.

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Bilstein Shocks - My Impressions

I took advantage of the buy 4 get 1 free deal on Bilsteins. These are the yellow/blue and are supposed to be heavy duty. I only put the fronts on this afternoon - rears are for tomorrow, if no rain. I had Rancho RX9000 on my truck and the fronts were fading. First of all, I was suprised at...

Archived Yellow and brown stuff in the fuel tank...

I had a similar problem last summer. I had dropped the fuel tank on my truck to install a draw straw and I discovered algae/fungi. This stuff was black and tan and it was in little blobs. The bottom screen on the fuel tank module was 75% covered with the junk and there was a small amount on the...

Archived Ran out of fuel won't start

When I change the fuel filter in my truck, I always clean inside the filter housing using lint free ( I hope) cloths. Then, I pour filtered diesel fuel into the housing to wash out any pieces of lint if there are any - of course the drain is still open. I close the drain, refill with filtered...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Groove in Timing Cover From Fan Pulley

Yes, all will be well soon. I've decided to put an end to this project and have the truck towed to a repair shop. See my thread " Trying to Remove VP44 - Question" on this forum; my last two posts for details.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trying to Remove VP44 - Question?

The problem is that I'm 63 and not as agile or strong as I used to be. I thought that I was going to have a heart attack yesterday trying to drag the fan assembly and radiator shroud out from the truck. :{ All that is left to remove is the crankshaft damper which is sitting about 6 inches...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Groove in Timing Cover From Fan Pulley

Well it finally dawned on me. Probably the reason the fan pulley groove is in the timing cover is because I distorted the cover when I pulled the timing case out too far to release the VP44 shaft. #@$%! I'm sure the clearance between the fan pulley and the cover wasn't much to begin with. I had...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trying to Remove VP44 - Question?

I thought that I would resurrect this thread and let everyone know what happened. Yeah, I finally got the pump out. One big problem - I pulled the timing case too far and popped two puckers in the timing cover. One was at the top and one along the drivers side. I didn't find this until I had...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Groove in Timing Cover From Fan Pulley

After I had pulled the fan assembly from my truck yesterday I noticed that the fan pulley had worn a partial half moon shaped groove into the timing cover. One end of the groove was deeper than the other - I would estimate that the deepest part was at least 1/24 to 1/16 of an inch. Does any one...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Timing Gear Cover Question?

I'm going to replace the timing gear cover on my truck Saturday. The Cummins spec calls for a silicone sealant type gasket, however; a regular gasket is available (p/n 3918673). I've never been too good at applying silicone as a gasket maker especially on something as large as the timing cover...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trying to Remove VP44 - Question?

Sorry Dave, I'm just a bit frustrated right now. I paid enough for the Blue Chip puller but now it looks like I need something else. I did read a thread on this website whereby member SHobbs had to use a small torch and heat the gear to make it come loose. Maybe that's what I need to do or I...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trying to Remove VP44 - Question?

I torqued my gear puller bolts all the way down to the where the last two threads were showing. The gear is actually only about a quarter of an inch from the housing cover. I gave up and removed the puller. I can't see the first two or three threads on the the pump shaft so it looks like the...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trying to Remove VP44 - Question?

As I indicated in my original post, I'm using the Blue Chip gear puller.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Trying to Remove VP44 - Question?

I'm trying to separate the vp44 shaft from the gear housing. My question is how do you know when it's done? I cranked on it awhile using a Blue Chip gear puller and decided to stop because I haven't heard a pop or anything to indicate that it's free. Someone I know at a diesel shop that works on...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Stuck Doing VP44 R&R - Need Help

    Thanks Dave! If you are a pro such as yourself and have done it as many times as you have, I'm sure that 15 minutes is all that you would need. It will probably take me at least 30 minutes just to pull the engine mounting bracket since it has never been touched. :{
