  • Getting ready to service my 48RE.
    Transmission performs normally.
Have serviced regularly, has BR valve body electronic upgrade, deep pan, temp gauge. 300,000 miles.
Do you recommend installing Red Eagle slip in band to keep it performing well ?
Hi cerb.... I'm just ready to order some tools that should make the injector job go easier. Do Flare nut crow foot wrenches work better than just a combination flare nut wrench especially on #5/6 feed lines? I see Geno's has a few options for getting to those rear tubes. Torque specs shows 22ft.lbs on those flare nuts, I guess a Crows foot may achieve the proper torque?
    TY.

Got me a new toy 04'5 3500 CCLWB had 100K on the clock' Driving it from Las Vegas to Indiana I need a different Trans, Im pulling a very modest weight trailer and the transmission has worked flawlessly, BUT SUCKS IN COMPARISON to my DTT Trans. Whats your preference DTT, Garmons, Goerend ??? and what would you have done for a Farm use 1 ton that will be somewhat abused at times in the weight its expected TO HAUL
I got my injectors from Piers Diesel Research PDR. Their supplier is in California. Not sure who that is yet.
Sorry, missed this in the confusion of this week.

Looking at the injector tips with magnification you can count the holes. Late engines,04.5 to 07, have 5 holes. Physically that is the easiest way to tell.

The engine tag is on the VC riser so that had to be moved over form the 03 and will reflect the 03 data. The engine could be an 06 and no way to tell without investigation.

Buddy of mine has an 03, the guy he got it from said it was an 06 motor but used the 03 computer.
He says the head tag is 03 but is worried that the block might be 06
    How can you tell?
He also had to replace an injector and wants to make sure he didn put an 03 injector in an 03 head with 5 06 injectors!

Any way to figure this all out?
Can you tell the diff between injectors by eye?
    Block numbers?

    Thanks!
So the big question is there something that can be done, I'm very frustrated with this, to the point I've thought about replacing the ECM.

The TPS was replaced, hoping that was where the problem was.
I have a complicated question for you concerning my regen. I'll try to describe it in short, but I have a feeling it will take a few messages to answer it.

When new, the truck was flawless, I only knew it was in regen by the mpg and tone of the idle as well as the exhaust brake would engage at idle. The reflashing of the ECM in 09 caused some odd problems.1st, the engine would stall before starting the regen when idling at a light and I engaged the clutch and a few times in between shifts. 2nd the throttle would stick after 2000 rpm and cause surging, when excellerating, and I suspect that took out my clutch. The dealer confirmed regen with their computer connected, and the tech as well as the trany tech took it on a test drive.
Cerb, I cant get to the OP, its a broken link for me. I posted a new thread to continue the conversation...Turbo and EGT's
cerberusiam: I posted in the first gen forum and originally worded the post inappropriately. I attempted to change the title of the post to comply with the forum rules, but could not. Maybe you can. Post title as is now HUB CAPS...Wanted. Thanks, Billy Kidd

Normall we tap at the injection pump for pressure to make sure its good. Can you hear the LP run when you cycle the key?

Considering how cold it got there maybe a new filter is in order, might have gelled it at the filter and plugged it.

You can crack the line at the injection pump and cycle the key to make sure you have pressure there then crack an injector line to see if there is fuel.
Hey i got a question im trying to help my neighbor with his Gen 2 24Valve
it fired and idled then acted like it ran out of fuel , no check engine light .
I text drew no return yet im still waiting to see if he can find some pump parts yet is there any by you my pump isnt right , bad from DCP But the 24 valve has the stock lift pump there is a sending unit on the pump would this be for a pressure guage none in the truck he bought it used , with a socalled rebilt engine but it leaks oil ortginal engine was blown up i guess , ( auction truck dealer bought ) I told him to buy the better than stock Fass lift pump then the pressure guage set up if it just needs the guage that be best if what im seeing is the sending unit for a pressure guage . Do you think the VP44 is junk ?from just idleing i told lets try the lift pump first , Do you bledd the injectors as on a 12 V on these engines ? Thanks Donovan , happy T-day !!!!
I had to give it a whole bunch more throttle to make the truck move.We went to another spot a few days later and everything was normal when backing. I guess that it was just backing up hill that the truck didnt like. There was no shudder no whine just had to give more throttle than normal. I have seen other post that said backing up hill makes the trans temp go up because its so hard on the trans. Thanks for your help
Got a question my 04.5 runs great but when on vacation I was backing into a spot with a little uphill to it. I had the trailer at an angle (not real bad) but it wasn't staight I had to give more throttle to make it move. It was like the trans wasn't in gear but it was. I cant remember backing up hill before was this the norm? I haven't had the trans rebuilt yet what if anything can I do to the trans when rebuilt to stop this? I didn't like that feeling just for info I had the TH mode when I was backing.
