5.0L block material
The block will be CGI (compacted graphite iron). Found this from Cummins http://social.cummins.com/cummins-announces-5-0l-v8-diesel-north-american-on-highway-markets/
Here is what some industrious lad for down under did to his vw tdi PDF http://www.myturbodiesel.com/threads/mkv-dpf-washout-and-rebuild. 17842/. Where there's a will there's a way.
ISV5.0 Engine
Here's the latest info from Cummins on the ISV 5. 0 (5. 0 L V8 diesel) http://cumminsengines.com/cummins-announces-isv50-engine-. It is a CGI block. This surprised me given the old info about the Cummins development engines (5. 6L V8 and 4. 6L V6) that we're going into a Dodge...
Link not working to article
My link above is not working. I'll to link again: http://www4.eere.energy.gov/vehiclesandfuels/resources/merit-review/sites/default/files/ace061_ruth_2013_o.pdf

To date, I've not seen any specifics about this 5. 0L V8. The previous engine development was around two engines, a 5. 6L 90 deg V8 and 4. 2L 90 deg V6. It was going to be a CGI block (compacted graphic iron as opposed to grey cast iron). When the 5. 0L V8 looked like it was going into the Dodge...
I wish he would have quantified what kind of plastic he used and how much energy is required to extract some quantity of fuel. He also doesn't state what the residue/by-product that is left. I've seen this before and thought it was interesting tho.
Just found this on the web: http://autoindustrynewsletter. blogspot.com/2013/03/cummins-v8-is-still-in-development.html. Cummins is still working with OEMs to sell the 5L V8 diesel. I wonder who?
Because even with emissions handicap, a modern common rail diesel can be ~30% more fuel efficient. And if you plan on driving a vehicle for 200K+ miles, this will make up for the price premium for diesel in the USA. Also, having current diesel vehicle myself (in sig), it handsomely rewards a...
I just did the EGR maintenance on the 6. 7L early during holidays (~63500 mi, truck in FL, I'm in CA). I did not see much in to way of build-up/blockage in the system. The truck is used about 25% of the time towing a horse trailer (8-9K). One data point for you.
I'm sure it will have SCR (urea) system to meet NOx emissions and free it up for better fuel economy (if you can keep your foot out of the accelerator). I have a 2012 Jetta TDI (2. 0L/140 HP/236 lb-ft)and I'm averaging 45 mpg while driving normally. It'll go down to 35 mpg with a heavy foot and...
