2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Clunk in Steering

No records from the previous owner, I bought the truck from a dealer in Portland Oregon. The steering box mount was checked yesterday, but I have no idea if the box has ever been changed. The track bar was replaced, probably 2017, but I do not know if the recent mechanic put hands on it or not...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Clunk in Steering

There are 270,000 miles on this truck. I have a double clunk that feels like it's coming right up the steering column and it has gotten progressively worse over the years. You feel it most every time when at low speed, stopping or starting from stop lights and stop signs but rarely from turns...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tow Mirrors

I was afraid of pulling the stud out of the mount. I'm not sure if I am high or low.

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tow Mirrors

I have the mirrors installed. It did take 2 people to do the job. Part of the problem was, unlike the original mirrors, the base where it touches the door, is not the same. At one point, using feeler gages, I have a gap of more than 65mm. Neither mirror really had a gasket where the body meets...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tow Mirrors

I tried putting the first mirror on today (by myself, not a good idea btw) and after five tries, called I called it a day with the mirror uninstalled. It seemed to be a clearance problem because I never had more than 3 threads on the mounting screws to start the nut and the top mirror did not...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tow Mirrors

Well. I can't say I am dissatisfied. I called today, explained the situation, and they told me to keep the second set of mirrors and they refunded the bracket set I purchased. My reply was "But they just could have sent a single bracket for the right side". "That's not how our system works. Keep...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tow Mirrors

If you want to understand this post, you might want to start at page one of this thread. Last I spoke to A1, they wrote to ask which mirror came equipped with the reinforcement bracket that I needed to upgrade my stock mirrors to tow mirrors. I told them Driver side had a reinforcement bracket...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tow Mirrors

I then recieved another email which was the answer to my oringinal customer service ticket. I was told the replacement with tow mirrors was not possible if they were not fit originally. I disputed rhe comment citing the note in the ad concerning the reinforcement kit. I also noted that I had...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission That Dreaded 2nd Gen steering !

You are right, straight line stops and starts. This has been going on for a few years now. It's not even a sound, it's a feeling thru the steering column. Could the steering box itself be loose or could it be movement in the steering column? Thanks for the reply John! Gary Moore

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission That Dreaded 2nd Gen steering !

I realize that. I was wondering if clunking was was common on failing steering boxes. Thank you for your input.

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tow Mirrors

After buying the reinforcement bracket kit, 1A Auto sent an email asking for pictures of the mirrors I purchased so they could match the brackets. This was a bit confusing as to why, because they have the part numbers of the mirrors purchased. I had only opened one of the boxes because I...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tow Mirrors

I still had not heard from 1A Auto yet today so I looked at the mirror description again and down near the bottom it says "If towing mirrors were not originally equipped on this vehicle, you must buy the reinforcement bracket kit for proper installation." So I called in, the kit is $45 shipped...
