Fullsack,
If you go back thru the thread you'll find even people with lift kits, including me, are still having issues with the front Mag-Hytec covers making contact with either the trac bar or the tie rod. My advice to anyone considering purchasing the front cover is, "Not To". Let's see. ...
Pulled the 5ver for the first this past weekend after installing the Jr. The 5ver weighs in at 14,000 loaded. Pulling using the "tow" mode I noticed a much better power feel but also "lots" of smoke. I'm running the stock exhaust and PSM with AFE air filter. Just more info to add for those...
Alaskaskiff:
Can you help us understand more in detail the process you followed and any associated costs with having Mag-Hytec modify your cover? Also, any pics of the modified cover... . is there sufficient clearance now with the modified cover?
Thanks,
Jason
Sean: I am running your 5100 series system with your trac bar. I installed the suspenion system before adding the Mag-Hytec cover so I can't commit on whether there was interference between the stock suspenion and the Mag-Hytec cover. I can say that I ran the 5100 suspension for 2 weeks prior...
Ducman82 is referring to the tie rod which makes sense in him having contact issues while turning and I'm having contact issues with the trac bar while the suspension is cycling up and down given the natural movement of each bar.
Correct. . blue arrow is trac bar. Yes, I only have contact when going over speed bumps or quick drastic changes in road elevation..... The black powdercoating is starting to wear off on the outer edge of the area I highligted in yellow.
Jason
It appears that when the suspension cycles up and down that the trac bar comes into contact with the cover directly below. I had been running the suspension for a couple weeks and really liked how smooth the ride was and the adsence of bottoming out the front end everytime I went over a speed...
Update:
I incorrectly described the contact point on my Mag Hytec front cover. I borrowed a picture from Ducman82 to highlight the contact point... Thank You Ducman82. The contact is between the front cover and the trac bar.
Jason
Same problem here. The contact between the trac bar and the Mag Hytec cover is at the 2 o'clock position when facing the cover. The cooling fins are not the problem... . the contact is above the fins on the outer edge just forward of the dipstick.
I'm running the Lorenz Bilstein 5100...
Update on pulling right
All:
As I mentioned earlier, I've struggled with a slight right pull and right front tire wear since new. I've been to the dealer numerous times trying to get the alignment right to no avail. I've rotated tires from one side of the truck to the other... experimented...
All:
I've struggled with a slight right pull since new and have done the dealer visit thing 3 times for alignments and gotten the regular "it's within specs" comment, rotated tires etc etc to no avail. I've reached the 36,000 mile mark on the truck and as a result on now being my own warranty...
Thanks for the feedback. Whenever I'm ready to add a performance box I'll look into the dual-element thermocouple. I was just curious to see if anyone had done such a mod.
Thanks,
Jason
Thanks for the input guys, I'll take a look at the MAP and Rail sensors to ensure good connection.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond :) :) :)
