It is most likely the rubber tube between the door and body. It is a tight bend for the wires inside there. What you will probably find is wires that have been bent back and forth,and now have broken.

I have an 06 g-56, and have not seen any more than a little bit of gray film on the plug. It has 116,000 on it,and on its 3 change with Royl Purple. As for the noise,it's hard to hear any little noise over the DD clutch.
I have the 3250 DD sprung hub in my truck, and love the darn thing. It has very light peddle pressure. I have the upgarded hydros too. I went from their 3600 DD to the clutch I have now, and it is a pleasure to drive now!! My 5' 100 lb daughter can drive it all day long ( if I would let her:) )
I had a problem with my Southbend clutch, call Peter, and he went above and beond for me. I don't think you will ever hear of anyone that has had bad or even so so costomer service for Southbed clutch. Jeff
I think you have one or more fingers broken on your pressure plate. This happened to me ,and it sounds just like mine was shifting(or not shifting). You need to call Peter at Southbend . He will take good care of you.
