Thanks for the advice. I really don’t know how much money I want to put in that motor. The truck is starting to show its age. It still runs great just leaking coolant.
The mechanic didn’t quote hours he just gave a price of 600$ if I supply the parts and fluids.
I told the mechanic I would supply all parts because I want to use genuine Cummins parts. I plan to order the Cummins top end gasket kit 4089650 since it has all of the required gaskets. I was definitely going to have the head milled and tanked. I was told he has done many 5.9 HG replacements...
My 12v has 350k and the front and rear corners of the head gasket are leaking coolant and running down the sides of the block. I need some advice on replacement.
I have been told to plan on buying a new cylinder head because most of them are cracked between the intake and exhaust valves. Is...
My truck has been doing that every year for as long as I have owned it (16 years). The first cold day every year I have to add a little fluid and I am good for all winter season. I use the Lucas power steering fluid. It may be the fluid reacting to the cold weather. I don’t have any leaks...
Aftermarket radios have much better sound quality and features and are extremely easy to install with the installation kits and wiring harnesses available. But if you want to maintain the stock look there is United Radio in Syracuse NY. Don’t waste your time with a salvage yard because most of...
My 12V is leaking coolant at the front corner of the head. Time to replace the head gasket. Does anybody have any advice on which gasket to use. Some say use a marine gasket, others say the new gaskets are marine gaskets?
The truck has 300K+ so I assume that rebuilding the head while it is...
I was talking to someone yesterday who also has a 97 that is pushing fluid out of the ps pump and squealing until the fluid warms up then it is ok. No brake issues. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I don't remember which part numbers are which but the moog catalogue lists standard duty and heavy duty. Of course I didn't find this out until after I had already replace most of mine with the standard duty.
I think all SBC clutches come with a flywheel anyhow. Call TST products they can help you. I just ordered a clutch from them and I received it in 2 days.
I got the transmission back from Standard Transmission and Gear this week and will have it back in the truck this weekend. As well as new SBC clutch, new u joints, transfer case seals and fluid, new u joints, etc. I can't wait to get it back on the road.
I agree SBC. Don't waste the time to resurface flywheel. The rear main seal and the other gasket (u shaped) are only about 25.00 and are simple to replace.
I replaced the gear oil in the transmission about 8 months ago with the recommended oil from Dodge. I have talked with Standard Gear and the 5th gear problem is caused by the 5th gear synchro and sleeve. It's time for a rebuild. It would have only cost me 176.00$ and a few hours to pull the tail piece...
Just an FYI the 5th gear nut problem is caused by towing and normal driving in 5th when the rpm range is too low causing the motor and transmission to shake more than normal. Just don't have someone weld it in place like they did on my transmission.
