Al,
You do have a thrust angle caused by the rear axle not being perfectly straight ahead. It is not severe by any means. You can loosen u-bolts and twist the right rear forwards and twist the left rear rearwards and this may help some. Did anyone check for a power steering pressure...
Had my truck at the dealer with a rear axle howl at 50 mph. It sounds like a ring and pinion howl on the drive side of the gears.
Dealer told me they would order a new ring and pinion gear set. A service writer working at this dealer also has a 04 td ram 2500. He had the same noise I have and...
Stemph tells me one of the ball joints they sell adjusts caster and camber... . however it may not work on 03 and 04. They also sell an adjusting ball joint for camber only(may not work on 03 and 04). Northstars ball joint was for camber only and will not work on 03 and 04.
Did a little research today at work. Stemph adjustable ball joints are listed for 2000 & up dodge ram 4x4. These ball joints will not work in both dana and american axles. They will work in dana axles only. Northstar, which we buy products from told me the adjustable ball joints they sold for 03...
Raminspeed,
When you lifted the front 2 inches this may introduce more wandering or sway. You now have more air under the truck. The 4x4's wander more than the 2wd anyway. It would be nice if Dodge would build the 4x4 with a rack&pinion steering like the 2wd models. This would improve the...
Yes, left caster lower back and right caster higher forwards. If the toe angle is in degrees I would adjust to . 03 left and . 03 right. This equals 1/32 inch total toe in. This will give you the best tire wear.
Both caster bolts must be adjusted to twist the axle. The caster is lower on the right. This is your pull or drift to the right. . Adjust the caster to have . 75 degrees lower on the left side. Are your toe reading in inches or degrees? Did you criss cross the front tires to make sure you do...
Mr. Summit,
The toe in adjustment is for proper tire wear. It will not help any pull problems. The caster angle needs to be adjusted to correct pull problems. As stated above you can offset the caster lower on the left side if vehicle is pulling to right... . always criss cross your front...
Gentlemen, if your dealer says no caster adjustment find another dealer. The 4x4 does have a caster adjustment. Look under your truck and you will see 4 arms extending from your front drive axle towards the rear of the truck. At the front of the lower arm on each side you will see a cam...
If you have the caster adjusted to . 7 to 1. 0 degrees lower on the left side than the right side, i. e. 2. 0 3. 0 this will probably take care of your right pull problem, assuming there are no other problems.
