Just to clarify, sometimes when the wait to start light came on there may or may not be a code.
The engine check light and code P0244 only showed up after I returned the truck to stock. The wait to start light still would come on periodically and could be cleared with the Smarty. Regardless, the...
I've been fighting the same problem with my '06. My "setup" is:
Boost and Pyrometer pillar gauges
Cold air intake
Straight pipe
Air pre-heat delete
Smarty Jr. set to Performance.
All worked well for over a year when the wait to start light would come on under the following conditions:

I ended up buying a used cluster on eBay from a wrecked RAM (ouch!). Swapped out the LEDs from the old cluster and it works like brand new. I still have the old cluster and now that I know exactly what pins to touch up I'll try touching up the solder joints. Considering what a PITA it is to take...
I'll definitely try tearing out the cluster and checking/repairing the solder joints... that's something I know how to do and if it solves the problem, I can save money!
My 06 BigHorn started doing the same thing. Reads 300-350 RPM at idle and never gets above 1500 RPM even when I know the engine's running around 2k RPM. When it's idling the needle will fluctuate and during normal driving the needle sometimes jumps up to the correct reading. I'm glad I know how...
