Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Instantaneous power loss when pulling really heavy

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Instantaneous power loss when pulling really heavy

I have a 98. 5 24v, manual trans (5sp), 4x4 basic stock truck and 109,000mi. The only guage I have is a fuel pressure guage. I have had an intermittant problem the last 3 times I have towed my 5th wheel. When pulling real hard *up steep hill, passing, etc) with my 5th wheel, I have hed 5 or...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Hesitation Problem

I have a 98. 5 24V. When I have the trottle mashed to the floor on hills towing heavy, I sometimes get hesitation, or what seems like a complete instantaneous cut out of power... I have not been able to get this fixed. it does not raise codes, only happens occasionally... sounds similar

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) how it goes all to hell at the same time!

They are crooks Well, folks, it turns out that the lift pump was shot, so I went with the in-tank retro (I know, more $$$ than I should have spent). They hooked up the lift pump, took it for a drive and called me up saying it raised codes showing the injection pump was bad and the turbo too...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) how it goes all to hell at the same time!

I have a 98 24v 4x4 manual. Forget the fact that I have had the 5th gear nut fiasco, then later a complete transmission rebuild and the I've had 2 lift pumps and then a VP44 at 72,000... . and a blown axle seal at 85,000... those were the good old days... now I'm at 109,000 and it is in the shop...

Archived Lift pump for 98.5 24v

lift pump is shot and the dealer tells me they cannot get the old-style unit that mounts up in the engine bay. They say that the only parts they can get is a retro-fit of the new in-tank pump... and that is back ordered for approx 2 weeks. Anyone else hearing this? Where can a guy get an...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Very jittery launches

thanks for the info, Nathan. For me, a smooth lauch is about the most important thing. I cannot stand all the slamming of the kingpin and heads jerking around in the cab ... sucks...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Very jittery launches

PC12Driver, Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. I have done some more testing. I went up to a pretty steep hill last night and on pavement, unloaded, in granny AND reverse, I get the jerking... slight, but you can tell it would be exaggerated by load. And I do notice the clutch...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 98.5 24v VERY ROUGH Idle (not same old thing?)

it was running a bit warm (close to 190), but that didn't seem outrageous to me

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Very jittery launches

Folks, I can't find anything in the FAQ on this one. I have a 98. 5 24v 4x4 manual. Over the last few thousand miles if I'm towing my 5th wheel I get really jittery launches. I've been towing the same trailor for 6 years and in all those years I can usually slowly let out the clutch and get...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) It feels like transmission, but is it the engine?

I have a 98. 5 24v, manual trans, 4x4 basic stock truck and 109,000mi. I was towing my 5th wheel in 80 degree weather up a very long 6% grade. Three different times under extreme stress (3rd gear, 2600rpm) and pulling hard, I felt what seemed like a "slip" on oil or something. Hard to explain...
