I have a 98 24v 4x4 manual. Forget the fact that I have

had the 5th gear nut fiasco, then later a complete transmission rebuild

and the I've had 2 lift pumps and then a VP44 at 72,000... . and a

blown axle seal at 85,000... those were the good old days... now I'm

at 109,000 and it is in the shop with a busted liftpump so I shelled out

for the in-tank retrofit... . AND ANOTHER blown VP44 (yes, 37,000 miles

on a VP and bust... oh, and the waste gate actuator is busted...

4,000 repairs into a pickup that books at $10,000 or so... that the?

Am I a guinea pig of some sort?

do you have a fuel pressure gauge? That might have saved you some trouble. I too learned the hard way, shelling out $1100. 00 for a vp got me on the fp gauge bandwagon pretty quick. sorry to hear your truck has more problems than my wife...

They are crooks

Well, folks, it turns out that the lift pump was shot, so I went with the in-tank retro (I know, more $$$ than I should have spent). They hooked up the

lift pump, took it for a drive and called me up saying it raised codes showing the injection pump was bad and the turbo too! I told them that this VP44 has been on there for 30,000 miles, but they didn't care.

I told them to hold off, I called Cummins NW and chatted with them a minute. They said the turbo was likely not out, more like waste gate actuator. They also quoted me a total job cost for the injection pump that was equal to the PRICE OF THE PART at the dealer. I had it towed to Cummins. They fixed the waste gate, road testing it hard and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the injection pump! They said the codes had been erased.

Im, at least I didn't get ripped off... Dealers are coorks...

oh, I had Cummins install a fuel pressure guage...

now it is off to improved airflow in and out and a gear splitter ...

Not that I go to the dealer for anything other than an occasional "dealer only" part but, where are you located so I have an idea of which delaer not to go to?

Wanna hate it even more?? Look under your power steering pump on the side of the block and pray it doesn't say 53. That's the monster I've been fighting here lately.
