My VP44 went out about 2 weeks ago at 143K. I'm pretty certain it was caused by my original lift pump that went out in March. Since I don't tow much any more, I have no idea how long it was out before the engine began missing while going up a mountain. I'm sure the VP was being stressed. I was...
My truck is running good. I cracked 1, 3 and 4 and had a friend turn the engine over. The air purged quickly and I closed all three lines. Then tried to start it up. the engine started right up with just a little roughness that smoothed out in just a few seconds. I still had a check engine light...
Well, I've just completed replacing my VP44 from Blue Chip Diesel by following their included instructions. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, so I'll say a thank you to BCD. My problem now is that I'm not sure how to bleed the system of air. I know how to do the low pressure side...
Thank you Katoom. That's a lot of great info! I've been looking at the Autometer brand the most. They seem to have more in the $50 to $70 price range I'm looking for.
I've looked at so many installations it get's confusing. Even the equipment needed. What's the simplest way to install a mechanical gauge? do you have to cut, as in shorten, the fuel line between the filter canister and the VP pump? I want to do it myself because I just don't trust most shops...
I've read a lot about FPG's on this and other forums. So much so that my head hurts. There are so many opinion, options and different ways of doing it. I just want something simple that will let me know my pressure. Has anyone hooked up an electric gauge to the outlet of the filter canister with...
I found some information, though indirectly, about the 00 - 02 24 valve engine with the VP44 pump. I kept wondering why all of the fuel filters for these trucks only filter to 10 microns. As it turns out if a filter is used with a lower micron rating in these engines with the VP44 injection...
It sure seems that way. Every fuel filter I've found by any manufacturer for my 2001 states 10 Micron, even the Fleetguard from Geno's:
FUEL FILTER - FLEETGUARD ('00 - '02, 5.9L) - FS19855 I posted above.
Yet the Wix 33585XE that fits this truck says it filters down to 2 microns:
DETAILED...
Is this 10 vs 5 micron thing dealing with later model trucks? I have a 2001 and just looked up the filter for it on geno's and the fleetguard filter plainly states 10 micron:
Description
FLEETGUARD FS19855 10 micron fuel filter for 2000-2002 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel trucks with the...
I pretty much updated my thread and included all of the information I could to maybe help someone else in the future. If you'll look at post #21 of this thread I think you'll find what you need. I hope everything works out good. My truck is running great again and I've had no further issues.
