I did get my Curt receiver installed. When I started with the furthest back hole (used by the OEM receiver), it hit the spring hanger. I found a youtube install video for a '99 and they started with the second hole (3" forward). That fit but I had to drill two holes on each side. I used a floor...
That's the receiver I purchased but the frame rails on my truck are 3/8" wider than "normal". I thought the 2500 and 3500 frames were the same but maybe not. I don't have any other 2nd gens to look at. My frame has an extra fold on the bottom edge and the front tab on the Curt hitch hits the...
Dodge used the same receiver on all three trucks (1500, 2500, 3500). It's 5,000, 10,000 weight distributing, 500 hitch weight.
I'm in the process of replacing it with a Curt 16,000 receiver (2,500 hitch weight). It's supposed to be a bolt on part but it will take some persuading.
You should try and stay at or under your GVW. You also need to consider your axle, tires and rims. All the weight ends up on the rear axle and sidewall flex can do you in.
Air bags help for leveling but but don't increase the capacity of the truck. My 3500 is slightly over it's GVW after...
Interesting. My 98.5 gasser used the rear diff ABS sensor for the speedometer. The calibration was done using an engine tuner connected to the OBD2 port.
There's a rear sensor for the ABS but I thought the 12V had a mechanical speedometer and instrument cluster. You could unplug the rear diff sensor and see if the speedo works.
You should say something about your truck like the year and transmission. 1998.5 and later use the ABS sensor in the rear differential for the speed. Changing the speedo calibration is a software parameter change. Older trucks use a gear and cable from the transmission. You change the gear to...
They are similar but different. A fully charged 12V lead-acid battery (at rest) is 12.6V and a fully charged LiFePO4 battery (at rest) is 13.6V. To add to the confusion, some lithium batteries have a battery management system (BMS) so they charge and discharge like a lead-acid battery.
A 12V RV...
