2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Cost of a good paint job?

Starts at $2000 and goes to $10,000. Paint jobs will be all over the map. The larger, commercial shops will be high, as will the specialty shops. GET LOTS OF ESTIMATES. I found a local (small) shop that cost me $4000. I'm happy, they did a good job. Had a couple of shops tell me...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Late model seats in Gen II?

Anyone swapped out the seats in your Gen II for a set of late model buckets? I recently drove a 2016 Ram on a business trip as rental. the seats were great! I looked under the seats to see if they would bolt into my truck LOL.. It "appears" that the slide bar mounts to the brackets in a similar...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Help finding interior parts!

Thanks guys, The piece is called the "Instrument Panel" and it's PN 5FS071PBAB.. and it's also discontinued and doesn't exist in the United Sates, OEM new. Mine is complete junk, brittle to the point of crumbling. I guess I will look for another, better 20 year old used piece that comes from a...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Control arm bushings

The old bushings will pop right out, AFTER you fold the 4 small tangs out of the way. The folded (crimped) tangs hold the bushings in their location. Look closely and you will see them once you have the control arm out. 1) Use a sharp HD knife to trim away the bushing material that is outside...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Finally did it!

Mine was base coated, then clear coated with PPG Toyota bright white. The truck had several dents and dings that they repaired. I worked with a local shop, and they hit me for $4K. I felt like this was a fair number, considering the size of the truck and the quality of the work they performed...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Help finding interior parts!

Guys, I need some help locating a PN# and/or the actual replacement part for the dash in my 97. I need the sub-frame assembly. Not sure what else to call it, its the large plastic piece that basically everything on and in the dash mounts to. I "think" it is item 4 on the drawing. Mine is shot...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Finally did it!

Many of us spend years looking at our favorite trucks thinking "I should get it painted".. but we never do! After 15 years of ownership and 421,000 miles..I broke down this month and dropped old faithful off at the body shop. 20 years of dents and dings, faded, chipped and falling off paint...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Head lights go black

Electrical bug for the month is now the hi-beams. I installed the LMC relay circuit a few months back and have been really happy. Went for a drive tonight, switched to hi-beam and head lights go black. Really don't think it is the relays, as I doubt they would both go out at the same time and I...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 47RH mystery leak on driver's side?

Do you have any details on this tool? My shaft seal leaks as well (has for years). One of these sunny nice days ahead I need to get in there and fix it. Thanks

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Great ball joint tool!

If the 2001 has the Dana 60 front axle, then it should fit.

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Great ball joint tool!

I recently had to replace my left front caliper, hose, rotor, etc. While it was up, I notice the bottom ball joint was loose. Surprised me because I typically get 100,000+ out of these joints and it only has 60,000ish. As it turned out, It wasn't the joint but rather the retaining nut was loose...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Head Lights gone wacko

Yes, the LMC harness DOES work directly with the OEM bulbs. When I first looked at them I wasn't sure, but the LMC harness snaps directly onto the factory bulb. But as I mentioned I had to extend many of the wires.. regardless of what their package said! $40 bucks well spent. Also no longer...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fuel Plate Q?

Thank you John, excellent write up. I would say that my truck currently runs well, for what it is... 408K on a 180hp engine. The engine burns no oil, has little if any blow by and doesn't "black" the oil at all, not bad for 400,000+ miles! I would say 50hp adder sounds about right for my needs...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Head Lights gone wacko

YEs, the lens restoration is a temporary fix, I intend to replace with the Geno's headlights in 2016. I did take the truck for a long drive last night down a local dark highway to see how much I gained. The harness definitely helps A LOT. The low beams are much better, but the biggest...
