call me a code-clear virgin, until 3 hours ago....

I would not delete one at all until both post 100k warranty and it developed an emissions problem. A GDE tune on the other hand would be the one thing I would invest in with a brand new ED. But I’ve been through it so I understand the practical dealings of how it works with the dealership the...

call me a code-clear virgin, until 3 hours ago....

Yep. Tune to turn off EGR and better manage DEF, and code reader/clearer has made the difference in keeping my ED on the road for 530k now. Engine did push a head gasket at 371k so keep an eye on your coolant level. These tend to develop slow coolant leaks in EGR cooler etc (still passes...

    8 speed in 1500

I miss spoke above my Ecodiesel tow tune is only 465TQ still more than the 6.4. It now has 500,000 miles towing 5 to 9k trailers still shifts quick n firm but smooth. Same trans they been putting in the 1500 since 2013. To my knowledge the only thing it would have ever needed to put behind the...

    Differential drain plug size

Yep found that out also Ron. Fluid change is quick and easy and cheap insurance as to a bigger repair. Good going Ron.

    Maybe my next truck?

I haven't had any of the issues on jgillott's list but have seen hella rust on 3rd gens. I'm actually surprised at 490,000 that I have not had any of those issues especially the front hub bearings. I did my first trans fluid change at 100k and it still looked good but had dirty fluid at 300k...

    2019 ED

TDR issue 101 should have more properly said no no diesels are available in the 2019 Ram 1500 YET. 2020s are a long ways off. Also you can order a 2018 Gen 4 Ecodiesel.

    8 speed in 1500

I tow TTs & boats commercially with an Ecodiesel. 450k with 8 speed no repairs. With tow tune it puts out 485 TQ. Even the medium strength 8 speed in my truck would work great behind the gassers and be a big improvement in towing mileage acceleration general drive ability. If ZF has an HD...

    21K, New Engine

TC said "If you going to keep it in long term ownership You should tune." Wow that was four years in coming. PPEI and GDE both have an ECM level tune. Neither has ever been promoted as any kind of salvation to my knowledge but rather as a smart investment for long term ownership. To turn off...

    Green diesel engineering

AHutson, On snowy roads etc you just don't use the turbo brake. Don't set your cruise before coming down a grade then its no different descending a grade or stopping on a slick surface than what you do now. As far as tuners each has pros & cons. PPEI is also well established and does a full ECM...

Ecodiesel EGR pipe and Map sender

Sorry don’t know. I put in a tune at 33k that turns off EGR so I’ve never had an issue. Truck has just turned 450k.

    How to verify new engine?

Great. Great motor in many respects but they do have a higher than normal failure rate prior to reaching the 100k warranty expiration. Seems to almost always be a bottom end failure. Zero or hero fits. Consider a tune such as GDE or PPEI. The reason is by turning EGR off you don’t have the hard...

Stock 20" Ram 1500 wheels and tires

Be interested if I can get a load to Baton Rouge after Memorial Day and if you still have them.

No ECO's are showing up on the "Build and Price" for 2018 1500's, anyone know why?

There is at least one guy on the ram1500diesel forum that already has his MY18 ED in driveway.
