I came to the conclusion awhile ago that if the oil meets Cummins CES20086 spec, I'm willing to run it. I found Purus 15w-40 at a local distributor for $7.99/gal in a 55 gal drum and so far, so good.
I feel like a broken record, but after spending so much time researching different oils, I've decided that if the oil meets the Cummins CES20086 spec, I'll use it. I had enough Valvoline Premium Classic Blue CI/4+ on hand that neither my wife's Excursion nor my pickup saw the CJ rated oil...
If the oil meets the Cummins spec CES20086, I'll run it. I picked up a 55 gallon drum of Purus 15w/40 for $8/gal. Donaldson or Fleetguard filters for me.
I only know of a few stations that dispense diesel with biodiesel already added and those stations are typically Sinclair branded.
I add the biodiesel to my storage tank before it goes into my vehicles.
I did not replace any of the blend door motors other than the one that came with the lower half of the HVAC housing. I have no heard of them failing.
Yes, I did drop the steering column and move the dash in one piece.
Flopster843 on youtube has a few videos that are very good for this job.
I just fixed this same issue last month. I even replaced the lower half of the HVAC box. If you're mechanically inclined, you can do the job.
Suggestions: Replace both heater and evaporator cores while you are in there - don't forget the PAG oil that goes in the new evaporator core; use doors...
One major difference is that the Mega Cab HVAC has a screen that restricts airflow to the panel/dash vents. I removed it and the difference is incredible.
