I had all kinds of problems with my Westach. Like CORed said, keep it clean & check your wires & splices. You may have to do this several times before it starts to act right. I also have a $10 NAPA gauge permanently mounted under the hood for piece of mind when my gauge acted crazy.

I do use 5W-40 Mobile 1 Delvac year round with no problems. Seems to crank a little easier in the winter. The oil weight recommendations are based on temperatures you can expect to experience so if it gets real cold where you live go for the 5W-40.
