There is a timing gear cover and a timing gear "housing" (cant think of the name) to block gasket. Usually that is what leaked on the 3rd gens.

Leave the fuel cap loose or when it acts up, open your gas cap up and listen for air rushing into the tank.

Check the rear exhaust manifold to egr cooler gasket. I have seen multiple 6.7s leaking there. And is only noticable with the exhaust brake on

The reverse thing is normal. It was part of a recall because some idiot doesnt know how to put the vehicle in park. Hook your seatbelt up and it disables the horn with door open and in reverse. Now on the turning part, it could be a clock spring or the actual horn switch
