Rear U Joints and Carrier Bearing for Driveshaft again....help!

DPKetchum: Which "other" sites? :-) Thanks to everyone for the responses!! I called a reputable diesel shop (name omitted for anonymity only) yesterday and asked for the shop manager's input. He told me that for the guys who pull over the road a lot, he's had good luck with the NAPA Gold...

Owner's Service Manual and differential/transfer case/transmission fluid change

Am I crazy or does my manual (on service shedule A) not mention changing either one of the differentials' fluid, the transfer case's fluid, or the transmission fluid for at least the first 100k miles? Service schedule B clearly shows it at 15k intervals for the diffs. I've read that a lot...

    Clutch & Brake Pedals

Although they seem more marketed to the "ricer" crowd of cars these days, Autozone/Advance/O'Reilly, etc. etc. carry anodized aluminum 'covers' that slip in place over your old ones and tighten down (for manual or autos). They have holes punch-pressed into them that give excellent grip. Probably...

Rear U Joints and Carrier Bearing for Driveshaft again....help!

Come on!! I know there are other Quad Cab Long Bed trucks out there with around 40k miles... . according to a lot of the posts in the forums, the U-joints on this set up seem to go out around 40k miles (how ridiculuous that a $40k+ truck needs U-joints within 40k miles of being new... . an...

Rear U Joints and Carrier Bearing for Driveshaft again....help!

Hopefully this is posted in the correct forum: 37k on a truck that doesn't seem extreme use (I can see your eyes rolling now) or very much towing, and the carrier bearing is toast (I think). It squeaks like crazy. From my last post, I learned that Quad 4x4 carries replacement carrier bearing...

Rear drive shaft "carrier bearing" squeak, need help!

HPetrat: Have you found a procedure on TDR for doing this? Don't get me wrong, I know it's real straightforward, but I appreciate (and I joined for!) the insight and extra knowledge that you get when someone else has done a job before you. If you find anything or come across anything and can...

Rear drive shaft "carrier bearing" squeak, need help!

I felt for hot parts the other day after a 2 hour trip. Only the U-joint at the diff felt real warm, but I can't get much play out of the U-joints (I know things change a lot when you get them down off the truck, but I just had the entire driveshaft out 10k miles ago when I put in the clutch and...

Rear drive shaft "carrier bearing" squeak, need help!

All: Recently, I have had an audible squeaking noise coming from around the rear driveshaft area of my 05 3500 SRW. This occurs primarily when it is under load. I crawled under the truck and the squeaking seems to be coming from the "carrier bearing" (this may be the wrong term as I am just...

    pacbrake leaking air .... somewhere??

Wow... . these are cheapy compressors IMHO..... they work, but perhaps some people are expecting to good of a pressure decay rate for what they really are... . I installed mine, checked for leaks (found none on the plumbed lines) and the compressor will still run at least once every hour in...

Pac Brake does not work until warm in under 28 degree cold weather?

I checked my truck this afternoon (25 degrees). Compressor filled up the tank to full pressure just as it should, right away. Pacbrake did not start working until coolant temp was 140 degrees. I'll try to check the tank for water ASAP--THANKS for the suggestion! I did eliminate the switch...

    South Bend DD Installed!!

I have been trying to justify the price of the Fluidampr to myself for the past year or two! I was close to buying it one day when a close friend claimed that most of their hype was all from marketing. He had ran one on a 2nd gen but didn't think it was worth the sticker price... . Got me to...

Pac Brake does not work until warm in under 28 degree cold weather?

Have started using my Pacbrake (installed about two months ago) more and more now that it is getting colder here in Indiana. However, once the temps dropped into the 20's, my Pacbrake will NOT come on until after the engine has been running awhile! I thought it was surely something faulty in...

    South Bend DD Installed!!

DD is a great clutch. still love mine... but trust me when I say they get louder with time! I sometimes second guess myself as to whether or not I torqued the flywheel bolts enough! REALLY glad I loctited them... ... I just hope they hold. At idle, my clutch sometimes makes me think it's coming...

    Removing Intake Heater Grid?

No kidding? I'm not from much farther north than you (Angola right now). I've been hesitant because if I jump right from ignition on to start (without doin the preheat cycle) in 20 degree weather, the truck starts a little harder and jumps around for the first 10 or 20 seconds trying to get...

    Removing Intake Heater Grid?

Would you be willing to show how you did it? Would you happen to have pics (that would be great!)? If you removed one of the grid heaters (did you just cut it off or what!?), where do you remove the electrical connection to it? You said that the wires were still all hooked up... . so I'm...
