2007 5.9 who loves them who dont.

Love my '07 5. 9 w/ G56 trans - has never seen the inside of a garage (aside from mine, for doing normal service work). My truck's title is locked away for good, because I have no intentions of ever selling this truck.

    High-idle - cut off date

Thought I'd post a couple photos from today's pin#22 install & ground path routing. Hardest part, for me, was soldering a 4" extension wire to the Cummins 'pin' wire after I had already seated the pin into the ECM gang plug... clearly a result from working too fast & measuring too little. I...

    High-idle - cut off date

Okay, I did some digging & found it's pin #22 on the rear ECM plug that goes to ground. It will be interesting, after doing that, to see if my Smarty 06 can activate the high-idle without a trip to the dealer. Dan

    High-idle - cut off date

Motorhead, Bob, thanks a million for help. You wouldn't know which pin it is on the ECM that requires a path to ground? I've pulled both ECM connections in the past, so I know what's involved with doing that. Thanks, Dan

    High-idle - cut off date

Does anyone know the last month / year that DC included the high-idle optional feature to be enabled in 5. 9 pickups (not a chassis cab)? I spoke with the local service manager today about this, and he mentioned that he thought 2007 was the year the high-idle was discontinued because of a...

    The rules of towing

I think most any local DMV gives out free copies (at least here in PA) of pre-trip / post-trip checklists that prepare a would-be commercial driver for his pre-trip inspection. Things like checking suspension (broken leaf springs), lug tightness, broken frame & crossmember welds, etc are...

Over-full on dipstick, oil analysis just came back bad, fuel in oil.

Having been in the same exact boat myself, I recently sold (!) my 6. 7 and happily replaced it with a trusty 5. 9 I located bran new as a leftover '06. Yes, I took a hit for some $$$, but every lesson comes with a price. Life is good once again.

    # of smarty's on the road.

Ditto, ditto and ditto - my Smarty 06 rocks - I've actually only ever used mine on level 3. Mileage and power increases are _very_ noticeable with a truck that's essentially stock.

Low sulfur & Ultra lo sulfur fuel SAME PRICE??

I frequently fill up at a Flying J in Sunbury, OH - truck lanes 1 & 2 only are labeled 'ULSD' in huge, bright lettering atop the fuel island you can see easily from 1/4 mile away. The remaining 28 pumps are only identified at the pump with the small '500 ppm LSD' sticker. I've seen other Flying...

    Exhaust Brake Help Needed...

The pressure regulation system that Pacbrake Harold referred to is a huge benefit. When loaded heavy (upper 20k's and lower 30k's) I often drop gears with the Pacbrake on right down to 2nd gear without touching the hydraulic service brakes in the truck (G56 manual trans). The PRXB is effective...

2006 5.9 with part time rough idle

mopartech - good info on testing injectors - I'll remember that, thanks.

    Which diff?

Good info - I appreciate it.

    Which diff?

I'm looking to buy front & rear diff gaskets from Genos (keeping the stock diff covers on for now) - I see they advertise an AA 9. 25, 10. 5 and 11. 5 all for the same model year '03 to '07. What's the best way to check which axle model I have - and do the front & rear diffs take the same...

"operating Tips For The Diesel Particulate Filter On 6.7 Liter Turbo Diesel

The '07 EPA regs & DPF filters relating to our 6. 7 trucks is a very half-hearted "solution" to a much, much bigger long term problem. The EPA fails to realise there is no free lunch out there. Dan

    news update

grasmo, what I was asking was, have you used your truck for actual business income, or is it just your personal truck with no income gained from it? At least in PA, these two scenarios are very different when it comes to what you're doing, at least from the truck's owner's side of things.

    news update

grasmo, was your truck's documented use commercial or personal? Good luck with this.

    falling fuel economy

Your mileage sounds awfully low - I have nearly the exact same rig as you, only I have the manual trans, and running around empty I am seeing peaks of 20 mpg - hooked to a light load (5,000 LB) brings it down to 17+. Maybe you picked up a bad tank of fuel somewhere along the line and your...

Best Exhaust brake for my '07, 5.9, G56???

Motorhead: That was money well spend - you'll be glad.

Pacbrake PRXB Any pros or cons????

Hopefully these two photos upload okay - this is my tank drain valve & Pacbrake compressor. The compressor mounting location (as shown here) is where Pacbrake recommends it to be. It's dry & out of the way of any road dirt / water splash from tires, etc. On the drain valve, I use a...

Pacbrake PRXB Any pros or cons????

I've come to trust my Pacbrake - when I need it, it's there. No hesitation, no wimpy feel - it just works, and it works very well. The one change I did make on mine, I added a small $10. 00 hand valve in replacement of the supplied hex plug in the bottom of the air tank so that I can drain...
