I am looking to buy an ehxaust brake for my '07,5. 9. Is the Pacbrake PRXB a good unit? BD any better??? Who has what?

I have a PRXB and like it. Rarely have to use the service brakes on downhill grades even with a fairly heavy trailer behind me (gross trailer weight 16950). Also, the on-board air compressor feature is nice. I use it and an inside controller to regulate the air pressure in my airbags. Very pleased with the whole setup.

I absolutely LOVE my PacBrake, very satisfied with it's performance, would get another at the drop of a hat.

I also really like the PacBrake in-cab control for my air bags. The compressor is real handy - airing up tires on my trailers is now just a hose connect away.

Very happy with my pacbrake. Works well, easy to install. Onboard air for the airbags is great. I wouldn't plan on airing many tires up with it though. It'll do in pinch. If you get the pacbrake it'll come with a little goody bag of air compressor accessories, coiled air hose, blower, etc. Go ahead and replace that air hose in the goody kit if you plan on using it, mine blew out about 3 minutes into a flat tire.

I've come to trust my Pacbrake - when I need it, it's there. No hesitation, no wimpy feel - it just works, and it works very well.

The one change I did make on mine, I added a small $10. 00 hand valve in replacement of the supplied hex plug in the bottom of the air tank so that I can drain air/water from the tank when I wish.

Dan, GOOD idea!! I have seen the cable pulled air tank drains on the trucks at work.

Where are you guys mounting the compressor?? BD shows it mounted under the hood. Pac shows it mounted elsewhere. How about noise of the compressor. What about water and dirt contamination? You know now that I am in the third gen gang from driving my old '01. 5 popcorn machine, I figure you could now hear the compressor running.

Hopefully these two photos upload okay - this is my tank drain valve & Pacbrake compressor.

The compressor mounting location (as shown here) is where Pacbrake recommends it to be. It's dry & out of the way of any road dirt / water splash from tires, etc.

On the drain valve, I use a "stiff" one that takes some effort to open and will take the PSI from the air system - otherwise you will always be dumping air and the brake won't work properly (lesson learned the hard way).

The compressor is whisper quiet.
