The service tool you speak of: should have been included with the new seal. You can set the seal to any depth you like as long as the seal is riding on a fresh surface of the crank. The Cummins speedi-sleeve kit w/crank seal did not have the depth tool.
Can not say it enough, but make sure no oil residue is left on the gear or shaft. Also you can increase the torque from 145 to 175 ft/lb but don't exceed that.
I bought my Snap On timing tools several years ago. I would never rent them out. If the rentee was heavy handed or dropped the dial indicator, the rental fee would not cover the replacement $$. I've only loaned them out twice. Both times to trusted buddies (a Cat mech and a Case IH mech). Both...
Did you have to upgrade the factory master and slave? What is peddle effort like compare to stock? What is the shifting like? How hard or easy to upshift, same with downshifting? I really would like to know how it compares to a con ofe.
The engine will tell you want it wants, but deciphering the clues is open to interpretation. The fuel should be at a couple of the injectors. Enough to get it to start and run rough. All you can do is verify that there is fuel at the injectors.
I read the first post and understand that it ran...
That truck was running before on the lift pump, correct? I would suspect that it has a lot of air in the fuel system. Have you bled it at the injectors?
There is almost no support for a 8. 2. I do not have a single shop in my area that is proficient on that engine, nor do they want to be. I found the problem. It is sticking in the throttle cable. Thanks for the replies and chuckles.
Anyone know how to free up a sticking governor on a 8. 2 liter Detroit? Will only stick when you back off the throttle from 30 to 40 mph. Doesn't stick accelerating, only decelerating.
Lots of info posted on changing a camshaft. Some highlights are:
remove lift pump
usually you use 1/2" wooden dowels driven into the tappet to lift them off the camshaft, but if yours are damaged, a magnet should work. You'll need 12 in total.
you need a trough (exhaust pipe) to remove...
If there is fuel getting to injection pump and the shut off lever works, I'd investigate the gear case. You can remove the oil fill tube and verify inj pump gear operation. If that checks out, it might be needing pump work.
