Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Erratic TC fix- Suncoast or ATS method?

It's this kind of misery that turns people off on one brand or another. Heaven knows the Cummins is why most of us bought our trucks. It's too bad Chrysler didn't properly design their systems. Were these problems the result of bean counters cutting costs or genuine engineering defects that made...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) I've just about had it. Help needed please!

My problems are escalating. Today I was decelerating at approx. 20 mph and I swear the TC locked/unlocked about 3 times in about 20 seconds. OD was off. That shouldn't be happening at such a low speed. The TC should be disengaged at that speed while coasting to a stop. Somebody with more...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Would you or wouldn't you?

NO! The Cummins is wonderful but the Dodge part has been a real pain with endless issues that have kept me and others under the hood way too often. I've spent way too much money on things that never needed repair, rebuilds, or replacement on the Chevy & Fords I've owned with comparable mileage...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) I've just about had it. Help needed please!

The BD noise filter came after the DTT failed to work. It was soldered as per instructions. Thanks for the responses so far! I'm sitting on my hands and won't spend a dime on my front end until the TC issue is solved. I'll buy an old beater gasser to hold me over until I get this sorted out. I'd...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) I've just about had it. Help needed please!

My 99 auto is continuing to suffer from the TC lock/unlock problem: Here's what I have done already: redone ALL grounds and battery connections... . A-OK now Installed quality batteries re-routed alt. to battery wire and wrapped in foil and electrician's tape BD APPS noise filter installed...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Quick ratio steering box

My 99 needs a box. Any input from those that have the quick ratio steering box? Good? Bad? Ugly?

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission brake and steering parts

Time for brakes, steering box and steering shaft. The front end has been rebuilt with greaseable ball joints and is tight. Steering box is dangerously sloppy (won't adjust) and the steering shaft is toast at 110,000 miles. I need advice on the best parts available for the job at the best...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Another tiring thread on TC lock/unlock

Another strange twist in the ongoing saga of the 1999-2002 TC problems. Even with a complete cleaning and dialectric greasing of all grounds, good batteries, a DTT trans. filter soldered in, relocation and foiling the battery cable, SunCoast fix, and new top quality alternator the old Dodge is...

Sorry I didn't see your question before today. I removed the Navone filter some time ago as I didn't get the results I expected. I replaced the alternator with an upgraded new one and installed the DTT noise filter. I don't recall where I attached the wire. I have the instructions somewhere and...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) cal.smog

CA 99 trucks... . no egr, no cat. Does the truck fail if the CEL light is on? A tight converter is coming and I'm told some CA trucks with a tight converter can throw a P1740 code. If this is so how do you convince the kid doing the smog test everything is A-OK?

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Calif. truck...275's.....and smog inspection

Considering changing to 275's before the evil CA. smog inspection. Anyone have them in a CA truck during their inspection? Pass? Fail? I'll dump my Banks BIG HOSS box and install and EZ when the trans. gets overhauled and upgraded.

    Centramatic Wheel Balancers

With the rattle of the Cummins you can't hear them. On my motor home the low speed noise of the beads is quite noticeable. They sure are sweet as the tires last forever and run smooth. If I was to do it again I would use balancing beads to save $.

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Torque Converter Still Locking!

Did you solder the connections when installing the DTT filter? Apparently anything less makes the gizmo less effective. I feel your pain. I finally had to replace the alternator with a properly rebuilt unit that had no noise issues and a fully functional rectifier. Time will tell if my good...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2 cycle oil added gets me lower fuel pressure

Fresh filter recently installed and the pressure drop only follows the addition of a quart of 2 cycle oil. The phenomenon only lasts for 2-3 days before the pressure steadies at the normal 16. Other additives used in the past never effected pressure. If I avoid the 2 stroke..... NO pressure...

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2 cycle oil added gets me lower fuel pressure

I use 2 stroke oil for a cheap dose of lubrication. Since I'm lazy I'll dump a quart into 35 gallons. For the first few days my fuel pressure can drop to 13 at idle and pull down to 12 at WOT. After a few days of part time driving the pressure goes back to 16 and stays there. Anyone else seeing...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Dss- 2wd

Mine pulls to the right and has from the beginning. Tires wear evenly. I just replaced the tires, all the factory ball joints with HD units with zerks, and installed the DSS. I had a slight reduction in pull but the truck's steering is tight & responsive now. The DSS is the best mod (besides the...

    Bring enough truck......

The guy I saw was on I-8 westbound east of San Diego about 50 miles. Some of these 1/2 tons when equipped with a big lift, wheels, and wide "D" rated sand tires look imposing and may give the uninformed owner a feeling he is running with the big dogs and can tow anything. There our poor buggy...

    Bring enough truck......

Jan. 2 found me hauling my horse trailer home after recreating in the desert. On the side of the road I saw what has become typical..... one new, lifted Nissan Titan with big wheels & tires. Attached was a HUGE double axle toy box and the whole rig sat on the shoulder of the Interstate with the...

    Idler pulley replacement

I am replacing my alternator at 102,000 miles. While I am doing the job would it a be a good idea to replace the idler pulley at the same time? No current issues except the belt rides one notch off center and has since the A/C compressor froze and toasted the belt. Not needing the A/C in coastal...

    Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) New alternator

Has anyone purchased a new, high quality alternator to solve the TC lock/unlock problem and STILL had that problem after the installation? Also, how do you test an alternator for "noise" that is causing many of us problems? Diode replacement has been mentioned as a solution. How big a deal...
