I had some transmission work done around 700 miles as reverse went out. I now have 42,000 miles and I just seemed to notice the ticking in the last couple thousand. Sounds like it might be time for a tip to the dealer and take them for a ride.

I assume you mean flexplate since its an auto, but regardless wouldn't that make a sound all the time since that would be spining with the crank? The ticking only happens when the TC is locked.

With 3000 miles on my truck I just completed a 600 mile road trip with about 80% freeway driving at 70 mph. My had calculated milage for that tank was 19. 4 mpg.

I talked to the dealer on Saturday and he mentioned that it was some kind of drum that controls reverse that failed. He said the rest of the transmission is in great shape. When I bought mine last week the $1000 to finance through Chrysler was only good on the gassers and not the diesels. Guess the game changed after the 1st of the month. Wish I could have know to save another $1000 and then refinance after 3 payments.

I have 4 wheel disc's on my 2004. 5 Are you sure you have drum brakes in the rear? I would assume if they are disc's they are probably self adjusting, but the would probably like you to use the parking brake every time you park because it probably helps keep it in adjustment.

I haven't used an actual gasket in a few years. A product I use with great sucess on my Early Bronco when I change diff fluids is called "The Right Stuff" made by Permatex. Its a gasket maker that holds very well and I have never had a leak.
