    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Gears and the highway-anyone?

MPalachuk, Does your dad drive much in hill country at say 65 mph? That is where the overtemp seems to happen with my 354s, auto trans, and trailer. I run 4" pipe also. The issue I encounter is not a problem with going a steady 65 on hilly freeway country, its a phenomina called other vehicles...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission bad brakes?????

I just did new rotors and pads, drums and shoes on my '96. Bled the brakes thoroughly. My problem was the opposite. Truck stopped good but the pedal drifted toward the floor with any serious pressure at a stop sign. After power bleeding and some improvement I was told that this pedal drift is...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Gears and the highway-anyone?

jandtjil, your comment:" Going with 373s and still having to drop down to 2nd or to start causing premature AT falure by driving through OD would not be good. " My AT is 3 speeds with OD. What I was having to do was drop out of OD into third to keep the egt, trans temp down. Was this what you...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Gears and the highway-anyone?

Land Shark, thanks for the input. Yes,you are pulling the hills without the speed drop due to downshifting with the fuel plate and 354s but whats the egt story, how does the AT like it? If youre not using gauges, are you seeing a water temp rise toward the top of those grades ? I was. But still...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Gears and the highway-anyone?

Yes , except for a 4" exhaust system the engine is stock. Tires are 265 75 R16s, stock wheels. The truck will make two, possibly three runs into Mexico from Wash. with the toy hauler loaded to around 8000 lb. GVW. When it makes the runs it will have a fuel plate and injectors to boost the power...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Big Texas Bumper

Before you buy the big Texas bumper, type "Off Road Tech" into a search engine and go to their web site. They fabricate an off road bumper for a Dodge that is seriously heavy duty and good looking also. Twelve hundred bucks, I have one on my truck, packs a 12,000 lb. winch, also have a matching...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Gears and the highway-anyone?

My '96 2500 has an AT with 354 gears. I recently pulled an empty 5120 lb. , 21' Desert Fox toy hauler up from Oregon. The 354 gears are great when the truck is on it's own, but seemed a little tall for pulling even the empty Desert Fox. Think I only got 11 mpg. I am reluctant to go to 410's...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) stuck in 3rd no tach and no charge

Stuck in third My '96 got stuck in third. Lost the tach and speedo. Dash warning lights, advisory lights stayed on after starting the truck. Turned out to be the altrnator. The on board computer power draws directly from alternator output, not the battery. When alternator power begins to fade...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Help!! electronics crashed in my '96

I was driving home from a short trip to the store and the truck went sluggish on me. Has an automatic, seemed to be stuck in third. Had to manually dial in 1st to get away from the stop light. Then I noticed the GEN warning light, CHECK ENG. light, WATER IN FUEL light, TRANS. TEMP light, and...

    Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Evaluating the high mile Cummins 12-valve

Never seen a crew cab, but quad cabs were fairly common. There are quite a few clean ones for sale in the $6000. 00 to $9000. 00 range. I just bought a second generation cummins with 218. 000 miles. Some minor bugs in the truck but the engine is strong, clean, and gets reasonably good milage...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Help Brake pedal goes right to the floor

First thing I'd do is make sure there is not a fluid leak. Then maybe see if the vacume booster has vacume. The master cyl. is collapsing without pedal pressure. It would seem that that cannot happen without a fluid or a vacume deficiency. I just went through some weird "soft pedal" stuff with...

    2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 4.10 to 3.54?

I paid a shop to convert my 7. 3 4x4 a few years back from 410 to 354. Cost me 1500. 00. It was worth it, I spend a lot of miles on the freeway. Milage increase was 2 mpg, but that was a Ford without a lock up torque converter. My Dodge 2500 4x4 has 354 gears, gets 20 mpg on the freeway with a...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission OK, I need some real help with brakes

1-6DZL thanks for the help. Yeah the lines were bled from a corner to corner sequence. I passed the truck on to Midway for the second round. They installed the new master cyl. , and I'm sure they bled and re-bled it. The origional master cyl. did act like you said, but so does the new one. The...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission OK, I need some real help with brakes

Clinebarger; thanks for the comeback, yeah the caliper assembly was disconnected from the brake hoses when the pistons were pressed in. In fact the assembly was prepped on my work bench. The master cyl. and lines did run dry but we refilled, thoroughly bled and re-bled.

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission OK, I need some real help with brakes

Rescue Ram, what was the remidy with your ABS system. New computer? The wiring from my ABS modules disappears under my relay, fuse box located next to the battery. But I didn't know the '96 used a computer. I just thought the wires ran to a relay. Theres a computer module in that relay box...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission OK, I need some real help with brakes

My '96 stopped great but pulled and pulsed to the right a little with a warped rotor. I tore the thing apart, threw in a set of drilled, vented rotors with ceramic pads from Napa and replaced the brake hoses. Bled the system and buttoned the wheels back on. Took it out for a spin and it stopped...

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Disappointing braking performance

The previous comment was out of tune (like my truck) with you guys. Sorry, I was trying to ask someone back up the thread somewhere about their solution to the brake issue.

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Disappointing braking performance

I must be missing something here, but here goes. You flushed the power steering system to help fix the brake pull problem?
